Listen not to the heathens for they shall have you buying Remchesters. This is my 1891 Mauser sporter, I was actually just out shooting development loads this morning which I posted in the My Favorite Loads forum. This was sporterized in the '50's supposedly by Williams, peep sight, carved and checkered original stock. I'm keeping my loads low pressure, using Reloader 15 at present, and getting 2230 FPS average with a 180 grain Speer. This load shot 3 shots into .205" center to center at 50 yards this morning. I think if you keep in mind these should not be rebarreled into high pressure rounds they will work very well. Graf loads 7.65 Argentine now and told me their loads were perfectly fine for an 1891 model. And sorry, but I don't know where any decent ones are for sale right now, if I run across any I'll let you know.

I am wanting to get my hands on one or two 1891 Belgium Mausers in suitable condition to be objects of a couple of custom rifles. My problem is finding one. Anyone got any leads where some may be found? Lawdog

1891 Argentine and 1889 Belgian Mausers are not a suitable object to become *any* custom rifle, FYI. Carcano

browningguy, Quote: I already have one. My father bought it for me when I was 12(first deer rifle) from Montgomery Wards and it was NIB condition. We cut off the fore stock just above the barrel band release and I used it that way until my high school shop teacher had me bring it to school for a shop project. Cut the barrel to 25, turned and polished it, mounted a ramp gold bead front sight and Williams rear sight. Drilled and tapped for weaver mounts and rings. Cut off the old bolt handle and installed one suitable for scope use. Polished and deep blued the barrel and action. Added a Weaver K 4 scope and a Bishop stock to finish it out. Got an A+ for a semester shop grade. I got a grandson and nephew that have fallen in love with that rifle and want grandpa to build one like it for them for their first rifle. If you find any let me know. Lawdog
