For a limited time, Swift A-Frames are .4763% off!! Hurry while there's still some left!

There seems to be a fairly loyal folloing for the 35 caliber. The STA and Norma is well regarded on this board, at least, and there's a number of folk enamoured with the smaller 35's.
Is the concensus that the 250g weight is the ideal bullet, or am I not alone in leaning toward the the 270 NF and 280 Swift? Who would like to see a heavier Partition? Even the Whelen can get the 280g to around 2250, right?
I'd work up a load for the Barnes Original 300g or whatever partial box it is you see on Ebay now and again, if I knew I could find more of them.

I lean heavily towards the 225 grainers, particularly the monometal bullets. I have a bunch of 200 gr. GS customs stockpiled for my 358, but for the Whelen, I think the 225 TSX is going to do yeoman's duty from now on. FWIW, Dutch.

I think for the majority of NA game, the 225 in an X or partition is the best weight, though 250's in the Norma. Unless you're hunting coastal brown bears, and shooting a Norma or STA, I really can't see the 280 gr being the best choice. I load the 250 gr Hornady rn to 2700 fps in my 350 Rigby, as it prefers that bullet to all others.

If you want to shoot cast bullets, then the 280 gr weight is superb, because 2000-2200 is the best velocity to shoot them at.

225-gr. bullets will make the 35 Whelen shoot as flat as a 308. Something in the 280-300-gr. range would make it run with the 9.3x62, but I think the 1:16 twist in factory 35 Whelens will keep it from happening. But the 250-gr. Partition or the 250-gr. Hornady RN are just about ideal until then.

I have shot all the bullets produced for the .35 caliber through my two .358 STA's, or should I say all that I can find. By far my most accurate bullet is the 270 grain North Fork in my rifles. I have gotten good accuracy from the Swift A-Frame 225, 250 and 280 grainers, the North Fork 225 and 250 grainers, the Kodiak 250 grain, the Nosler Partition 250 grain, the Sierra 225 grain boattail (I use it for fireforming), and they all take a backseat to the 270 grain North Fork. One of my rifles has a Lilja barrel the other a Winchester barrel and when I put the larger North Fork bullet in the chamber, they both seem to say, OK big boy now we will show you what we can do if you do your part. thumb Good shooting.

I'll cast another vote for the 225 grain monometal bullet. Specifically, I have had good success with the Barnes X in this weight. Looking forward to trying the TSX style. When compared to the 338 Win mag and a 225 gr spitzer, both with a 200 yard zero, there's only a little over an inch difference in trajectory. And the X bullet will expand well even on light game out some distance.

BTW, I have gotten the 300 grain Barnes Originals to 2250 fps with no problem in the 35 Whelen. IMR-4350 is the best powder,IMO, for the heavier loads.

homerI'm just a novice in the cast bullet game but I have had a real eye opener using a 297gr. gas checked bullet in my 9X41 wildcat. I haven't really pushed it yet but I'm measuing 2050 ft/sec. and not appearing to be at max. pressures. That's 30-06 energy level from 34gr of 4198 in a case almost an inch shorter than an 06. I can duplicate this and have with a load of 680.

I have zero experience with killing elk size game with cast bullets but it acures to me that this bullet at this muzzle velocity would be big medicine out to perhaps 150 yards. Any actual experiece out there? Any who this is my canadate. bewilderedroger

I am waitingto try the 280 gr WLN cast from Mt Baldy. They shhot well at 200 yds out of both my 358 WCF and 35 Whelen. The .429 hole in my chronograph hasn't healed itsself. So I guess I won't be provididng any chrono results. The bullet seems to hit with authority out of both guns, but the Savage 99 is my go to gun. I want to try both on Texas ferals next spring. Remember gun control is safely hitting what you aim at. Packy
