I've made two major mistakes in the last five years regarding my guns. I sold two of them. One is a 700 Mountain rifle in 280 Rem and the other was a 700 classic in 350 Rem mag. I just corrected one of those by buying back the 280. Had to pay him $50 over what I sold it for. Now I'm going to take a shot at buying back the 350 mag. I know the guy hasn't shot it since I sold it to him. I'll never sell another gun.

Maybe he got your email, Customstox, He still hasn't answered. Probably waiting for a better offer. The sad thing is he wanted it to rebbl to a 450 Alaskan and blaspheme the lovely 350 Remington mag.

Dutch, Customstox, Corrected both mistakes. I rec'd an email from the guy saying I could buy back the 350 mag. With the promis that I would help him with advice and locating components to build his 450 Alaskan. I think what he wants is really the 458 by 2". Any ideas on what action to use for this? Thanks

That's an interesting rifle, Dutch. I guess I'm too old or something because the AR type rifles don't do much for me. For more on this see the 458 X 2 thread on Big Bores.

Bob, the new Winchester 70 SA for the WSM's has a magazine right at 3.00" long... the bolt face, follower and ejector are set up and ready to go for the .458x2"... I can't imagine a better action to chamber in if you could locate a used one for a reasonable price.
Johan, I'm picking up the 350 on September 7th. The 280 is in Orlando so won't get that one until December. So there will still be room in my bed until December. Brad, thanks. I believe you're right but probably a little hard to find at the price he wants to pay.

Bob Mahaffey:
I've been looking for a new M700 Mountain Rifle in .280 for 3 yrs. I found one last week by chance. Put a deposit on it on the spot. I too had to pay about $50 over the going rate here for a Mountain rifle, so quityerbellyachin!
Ever run it across a Chrony? I was wondering what kind of MV one gets out of a .280 in a 22" tube.

I chronied some 140 XLC's out of my wife's Tikka a couple of months ago, just under 3,000 FPS, about 50 fps behind the Barnes numbers for a 24" barrel.
Good elk load. HTH, Dutch.

I'm getting 2850fps out of my 7mm-08 M700 Mountain Rifle with 140gr Ballistic Tips and 43gr IMR4064! These are "warm" but no pressure signs or extraction problems.
I would think a 280 would do 150-200fpr better!

First mistake completely corrected. I picked up the 350 mag week before last. It's still in like new condition. For folks looking for a 700 mountain rifle in 280 Rem there's one listed on the classified forum for $475. Oh, happy days.
