Simple answer is what I have built in custom or semi custom rifles: 1. 7x57 2. 280 Remington 3. 30-338 #1 4. 30-338 #2 5. 338-378 Weatherby ( sold) 6. 338-06 ( in process build ) 7. 404 Jeffery ( in process build ) 8. 22 LR Would build on a whim calibers ( very little encouragment needed to motivate me ) 1. 6.5x55 2. Another 7mm 3. 9.3x62 4. 257 Roberts 5. 6.5x284 6. 38x55 or 35 Rem Lever action 7. 416 Rigby 8. 22 Hornet or Bee 9. 300 H&H ( there are several other interesting calibers that could hit that list, its not a complete list, with some definate holes )

6.5x57, or a 35 Whelen it's a much better choice than a .338-06 or 9.3x62

I cannot decide: 6.5X55SE 7X57 Mauser (275 Rigby) 9.3X62 The action will either be a Monatana 1999, or I will go old with my Rock Island Springfield 1903

I have taken almost anything in the planet with a two rifles battery: 404 Jeffery (for DG) 8x68S for the remainder. My 404 J is on a M70 action and the 8x68S is on a argentine mauser, altough this action can handle perfectly both calibers. Ignacio Colomer

I think I would decide under what conditions and what game I would be hunting. Also how much do i want to to shoot it. If I want a rifle I can shoot comfortably all day, then A .257 roberts or a 7X57 mauser , would be good. But range wise and game wise you are somewhat limited, if yo want ot go with a little more power, 7mm Rem mag and 300 win are good choices. I find the 7 mag to be very comfortable to shoot and very good game round. The 300 is great also but kicks abit. the .338 is also a good choice but i can only blast about 20 full hous loads befor I decide to switch to somthing a little lighter kicking ...tj3006 freedom1st

Well if you want to be practical then: 270 win, 30-06 or 300 win. But who wants to be practical....my current dreams are of a 7.82 Lazzeroni. If your gonna go all out, go all out! (besides I have all the practical stuff covered)

Medium sized I would go 06 based 338-06 or 280AI flip a coin both real cool. Handle most everything in USA. Wood and blue or tupperware and S/S. I really like mine Big Bore 375H&H, maybe something 416. Would have to be wood and blue and CRF, just seems right. I am a bolt gun whore. Calling rifle. Hightech stock trued Remington in a 17 Rem or 17PPC. S/S metal. Mine is super light. Varmit/target rifle. BAT or Farley action PPC bolt face. Stocked by Speedy. On my short list Short mag stuff would be plastic and S/S. 6.5WSM Real Classic -Mauser or a pre-64 70 in 6.5X55 or 257 Roberts. Must be wood and blue. Makes about everyone drool, no matter what their favorites are. My two cents. I love spending others money LOL

280 AI 7mm bullet choices Less recoil than 30-06 Shoots almost as flat as a 270 Easy to fire form cases Adequate for Elk and perfect for deer JMHO ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

After going through this exercise more times than I care to admit, I would now limit any custom rifle to one of the following. I might add I already have most of them but I would do it all over if I didn't own one of them. Actually, some I might do again even though I already own one. 6.5X55 270 Win 275 Rigby (7X57) 30-06 358 Win 300 H&H 375 H&H ****************************** "We do not exaggerate when we state positively that the remodelled Springfield is the best and most suitable "all 'round" rifle".......Seymour Griffin, GRIFFIN & HOWE, Inc.
