the Model 700 CDL in 260rem? They offer the cdl mod 7 in this caliber so why not the 700? I think it would sell, i know i would buy one in a heartbeat. They use to offer the mod 700 bdl stainless/syn and i regret to this day that i didn't buy one because now they are impossible to find. I saw one on gunsamerica last week and sent an email within the hour that it was posted but it was already gone that quick. The local gun shop had a Browning that had been on the shelf for a while but i was hesitate to buy it because it had a 1:10 twist. I gave it a second thought because i didn't plan on shooting anything bigger than 120gr bullet in it so i went back about a week later to look at it again but someone had bought it. Maybe that was a good thing.

I would really love to have a 260 rem but i don't want a mod 7, same goes for a ruger. The rem mtn rifle looks ok but i don't like the pencil thin barrel or the det mag. Sako or Kimber would work but they are next to impossible to get around here. Man i guess i'm just asking for to much. Mike

I just got a Styer Classic American in 260 Rem. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet. It is classy looking though.

Why does Remington not chamberm the Model 700 CDL in 260rem?

SKUs (stock keeping units) have an associated cost and if they don't sell they are money loosers so companies try to keep their number as low as possible!

We here on AR do not even closely represent the bulk of the gun buyers in the US. Many of us will tell you how good the .260 is (I have two of them) but we're not the customer of Remington!....it's Bubba and he isn't buying the 260 Remington!......he's also not buying the 6MM Rem nor the 280 Rem.....I hope this answers your question.....simply stated....." Thou shall not make what thou cannot sell"

My two Ruger 260s are both tack drivers...

I bought both in Stainless with a Synthetic stock.. only because I wanted Stainless.. the stocks sucked...

But I filed down the trigger contact point with the Sear... and then put a Gray Boyd's Laminate on one, and a regular Ruger factory laminate on the other ( donated by another Ruger rifle)....

Both are now great..

one wears a 4 power Weaver scope and is loaded with 140 grain Bullets only.. the other is loaded with 100 grain Loads only, with a 3 x 9 Leupold on top with a Target dot..the latter one has dropped 4 deer at 300 yds plus so far, and the recoil was low enough I watched each one drop in the scope.. never loosing sight picture due to recoil....

Personally I won't be without one... I have 3.. the third is a Rem VLS...all three are tack drivers!

Rem. has done the very same thing to me on several rifles. I know it is not there mission to mess with me, so it must just be my taste in firearms.
I would buy a used rifle for the action & build what I wanted on it. That is the approach that I am taking on several rifles.

yeah, I'd like a CDL chambered in 6mm Rem in a long action, for instance!!!with a one in 8 twist while I am at it!

And those 260 and 7/08 Mountain rifles in stainless and laminate, sorry I didn't get one of each of those also... ( maybe they were model 7s, I don't remember.. but they sure were purdy!)

Vapo nailed it......" Thou shall not make what thou cannot sell"
It's business. If you don't do as Vapo states, you won't be in business long. Costs are managed to the level Vapo states, and each SKU must be a money maker. All companies work that way, whether it be cars, or computers, or light bulbs.
The best you can do Qtip is write, or e-mail, Remington and let them know your feelings. If they get enough people like you wanting a CDL in 260, they might make a run of them.
If you want one bad enough, the only route to go is buy one in 7-08, and have it rebarreled to 260. If you have a good aftermarket barrel installed, you'll have a very accurate rifle, for sure.

One of my shooting buddies called rem and asked if they were going to chamber the SPS in 260 and was told they had no plans to do so.I think there is a lot more interest in the 260 now as there was when they first came out so I don't think they would have a problem selling x number with a special run.
Some guys like myself preferr the 24 in barrel to the 22 in on the mtn or other brands.I did have one in the mtn rifle and a ruger and both were tack drivers. Finally got one in the BDL and more satisfyed with it.
Myself and 2 of my shooting buddies are wanting a 260 in the Tikka T-3 varmit, they make them and sell them in other countries but you cannot get one in the usa.One buddie called and was told that if he ordered 100 of them he could probably get one.Who wants 100 of them???

The best chance of getting a non-cataloged configuration Remington 700 is to get a wholesaler that has a good relationship with Remington, like Grice in Clearfield, PA, to order a limited run of whatever.

I think that a limited run of 700 LSS MRs in 257 Roberts would sell very quickly.

Remington's marketing of the 260 would make a good Harvard MBA case study for how not to do it. I have always wondered why Remington has never offered the 700 BDL in 260, since the 700 BDL is their flagship style. I have also wondered if somebody in the Remington hierarchy is purposly screwing up any chance the 260 has to succeed.

Of course, Remington has discontinued the Remington 7 in stainless, so it appears that they are trying to kill the whole 7 line by taking away 1 of the more popular configurations.
