hey friends, im looking for a new bullet for my 9,3*74R. At the moment im using the RWS 286grains TM RK (SN ROUND), and im quiet confident wit this bullet. But i guess, on a big stag or wild boar, the bullet hasnt enough power to leave the game and smash big bones. Because i m using the Noslet PT in my .375 H&H with superior results, i thought that the PT could be a good choice for the 9,3*74R too. Can anyone tell me something from the use ijn game, so to say from the practical site about this combo? Im quiet Interetsed . Thanks for responding konst

I've been loading the Nosler for a Valmet 412 with good results: 54.6 gr Norma 201 with a 286 gr NP. It shoots very accurately and consistantly. I would guess it's about 2250fps-plenty for that cartridge. Both barrels shoot 4 shots into 2" or less @100yds. Usually the same barrels shoot into 1/2". It took awhile to regulate but it is a nice rifle for the fast second shot. I used the NP in the 9.3x62 on my last trip to RSA and was delighted with the results. It breaks bone with the best of them. On shot broke the hip of a large kudu and went on into the off shoulder. Another went the entire length of a wart hog ending up in the inner aspect ot the thigh. My PH was inpressed when we recovered the bullet. I'm sold on the NP. [ 11-09-2002, 17:58: Message edited by: Dr. Duc ]

some additional infos. I will use them in a double (over&under) rifle and a Drilling. So i guess the pressure shouldnt be near max!. So i can be sure of that the "action" wont be harmed. Has anyone expereinces in developing loads for "combinated rifles"? The point why i like to change the bullet, is that my ammo (which my father bought with the over&under) is running out, and i like to take one load, for both rifles- The only question i have to face too, is how i can get the over&under together on 100m with a good load. If no load will work, i do have a good gunsmith how can "solder" the barrel-package, to one point. -by the way- do u think that the Nosler PT will work on our small game ( Falows about 50kg and boars avg 60KG )as well? Or is the 9,3*74R to slow, and the Nosler bullet wont open up? cheers konst

The load I used is 2297 fps chronographed out of my 9.3x62. Norma says it's 2350 in their load data. A slightly lighter load is listed about 2150 in the x74. I suspect 54.6 gr is is about 2150. I shot a steenbok and all he did was die instantly. No excessive destruction of tissue. The bullet was not recovered. We recovered one from an impala and it mushroomed nicely after going the entire length of the body. My feeling of the NP is that it does what is needed "on demand". If it needs to open it will and if it doesn't, then it won't. I know that sounds naive and simplistic but it seems to be the way it works. My hunting buddy has used the NP a lot on feral pigs and is very satisfied with it in the 9.3x62. I don't know about your rifle but my Valmet shoots the load I gave to about the same point as the factory RWS and groups about the same. I would try also IMR 4895 (54-56 gr) with the 286 gr NP. I'm guessing but I'll bet 56 gr will shoot to the same point of impact as the N201. Pressures are about the same according to my Quickload, 56gr of 4895 is a 53,00# load, 54gr is 47,000# in the x74. hey Dr. DUC, what you are telling about the Nosler PT,...i get the same results on wild boars, with my .375H&H! I shot the RWS KS and then changed to the PT in 260grains, because the KS blew up total on a 30 KG Boar????!!!!!!!! It hit the spine and it was a nice mash of meat and PB and core-material. The PT ( i just shot 10 boars with) works fabuluos!! the lightest one was about 25 KG and (up to now ) the biggest which i shot with the H&H was about 75KG. All shots were one shot kills, although i hit one boar in the chest. And the blood trail is ....enourmous. So thats why i tzhought of using the PT in my 9,3 too! Thanks, and nice weekend konst
