CZ 550 9.3x62 Rifling Twist Rate
I picked up a new CZ 550 in 9.3x62, and was wondering if anyone knows what the barrel's rifling twist rate is? I tried to measure it with my cleaning rod and a brass bore brush and got a rough reading of 1 in 15". I had emailed CZ with this same question a few weeks ago and got a reply of 1 in 9.5"...I don't think so!! Thanks!

The CZ catalog list the twist rate at 1:9.5".

CoonDawg,

That's what CZ said in their email, but mine can't be 1 in 9.5". I've tried this "rough" measurement technique before and have always been + or - one inch the published rate. And doesn't 1 in 9.5" seem awfully steep for a 9.3? Twist rates for .358's typically run from 1 in 12" to 1 in 16", and .375 twist rates typically are around 1 in 12". .366 is sandwiched right in-between so you'd think it would be similiar?

For what its worth, Sako's 9.3x62 rate is 1 in 14".

Thanks for the reply!

Joe

Yes you are right. That was listed in the 2003 catalog, depending on when your rifle was built it could be a 1-10 or 1-12.

Most standard twist rate that I have found for the .366 has been 1-14 but know barrel makers that do 1-10 to the standard 1-14.

This may sound a little stupid but double check the bore size not the markings on the barrel. I have seen new Remmingtons marked one thing and found out it was a DIFFERENT CALIBER [Eek!] [Eek!] . No more Remmys for me. Bought a 7mm and it turned out to a 30 cal bore [Frown] what an eye opener!

If it turns out to be a different caliber I'ld take it back and get the right caliber 9.3x62 you wanted.

Danny you are right Midway does list them and a 30 days because its a special order. JK would be better off calling Douglas like I did they told me 2-3 weeks delivery. Douglas will do a 1-10 twist for the 9.3mm.

I Asked for a catalog and what was the twist of their .22 Hornet. Their reply came back 1 in 16.
They should be able to tell you what you need to know.
