Hello all.

Anyone who use the 6.5*57R?
How is the caliber? From looking at original ammo, it looks like it will penetrate deeeeep. Maybe a good deer, goat caliber today?

When and who was its "father"?

Thanks for looking

Cheers all

i have the unrimmed version.
it's directly comparable to the 6.5x55.
hornady has some data for it in their books under 6.5x257.
i just used x55 data when i got mine.
there is a 7x57 rimmed round also all of these rounds stemmed from the 7x57.
8 mauser,6.5 mauser,257 roberts, 6mm remington.
the 9 and 9.3 x57, there is even a 22 caliber wildcat.
and the american 30-06 family of cartridges were developed because of the offshoot 8mm mauser
the rimmed versions were developed for break open rifles.
the 6.5x55 is also a mauser cartridge.

The rimmed versions of x57's have lower pressure rating. What's the chances of a hand loaded 6.5x57 Rimmed ending up in a low pressure break action? If zero then use rimless load data like Lamar suggests. However, you are in Europe where the break actions exist (rifle/shotgun combination guns) so perhaps you should not.

Look up 6.5X57 Rimmed Reloading Data on the web. Those loads don't look like low pressure to me but they are for a combination gun.

Thanks for the information.
Just had a look at a old cape gun in 16/65-6.5*57R. The caliber is interesting.

An excellent round that kills much better than it should. I use both the Nosler 120/125 grain BT and Partition with N140.

Lapua/Vihta has load data in their 2002 manual, PM me when you need a copy.
