Are the 150 and 180gr bullets available for the .303 brittish strong enough for .311-338wm velocity potential? Thinking about chabering a P14 barreled action.

This cat would be about the same as the 303-300 WinMag or 303-308 Norma wildcats that are fairly common here in Canada.
Now that Imperial is out of the loop, low priced .311 bullets that can withstand magnum velocities are pretty rare. I believe there are some quality Woodleigh Weldcores being made that are fit for magnum velocities. Also, Steve Redgewell over at 303british.com is coming out with a 200 grainer shortly that may do the job.
Oddball I have a .311 Win Mag on a P-14 action. While it shoots very good groups, bullets are sadly lacking. The Sierra 180 gr Spitzer is probably the best bullet availible. They hold together pretty good up to about 2900 fps. They work OK if you try to pick your shots and only take a broadside shot into the lungs.Several of the heavier 308 cal bullets shoot surprizingly well but have not chronographed any. The 200 gr speer is probably the best 308 cal bullet accuracy wise in my rifle. If you choose to try this I would suggest you try the 311 Win rather than the 311/338. I just use a std set of 300 Win mag dies rather than buying a custom set of dies for lots of $$$$. Hope that helps. Also some 300 Win seating dies would not accept the 311 bullet so you may have to try a couple different brands.I am presently using an RCBS die.
