| The "close cover/nasty critter" rifle element was part of the rationale for the 9.3 X 62, but the other (and somewhat conflicting) factor was its possible utility as a cast bullet rifle--which is its "range rifle" persona. It was this range usage element that decided the "Lux vs. F/S" question for me.
The Lux is not a very heavy rifle, and I suspect the F/S might be a bit lighter. With full-on 286 grain bullets at 2450 FPS, it lets you know the primers functioned from benchrest. Shot from standing position, the recoil is quite comfortable--but when seated, it's not a lot of fun.
The caliber is an absolute delight with cast bullets. I run the 270 grain Mountain Molds design with 18.0 grains of Alliant 2400, providing about 1600 FPS. It will average just over one inch at 100 yards......five-shot groups are round and consistently land between 1.25" and 1.5". Three-shot groups and ten-shot groups do about the same thing, so it's a real steady load in my CZ. These same bullets at 2000 FPS open up a bit, to about 2" @ 100. It is as a cast bullet rifle that I really enjoy this caliber and its platform. |

| I had a FS hog backed .308. The drop at comb was too low for me with the CZ scope rings that I purchased from the dealer. When sighting it in it took forever for the barrel to cool off between 3 shot strings. The scope rings were high so the scope could clear the bolt. I passed it on. Jimmyp |

| The CZ 550 FS in 6.5 x 55 shows up on the company's main (I guess you could say European) website but is not listed on the US website. I'm guessing you can't get them in the US unless they're listed on the CZ_USA website. I'd sure like to think they would be made available here in the states, if CZ is making them anyway. |
