What's the recommended/typical barrel length and finished rifle weight for a scoped single shot in 9.3x74R? I'm pondering a project... ============================== "I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down" --Fred Durst

I've shot on one a Blaser K95. Not too bad, however I would not want to spend a long range session doing so at the weight of that rifle. Stock design has a bunch to do with it. If Ruger ever comes out with the 9.3x74 chambering in the Number 1 like has been mentioned, that would seem to be a good starting point to ponder for weight. ______________________ Guns are like parachutes. Hi, I have a Pre WW I drilling in 16/16/9,3x74R. The barrel length is 27,5" The thickness at the chamber is 0,24" and at the muzzle 0.071" . The steel used is "Röschlinger Elektro Stahl". The Drilling shots 3 cartridges as fast as I can reload from the rifle barrel within 2" at 100 yards The Germans new how to make rifles in those days

While pondering a project my self,My gunmaker said he could build me 9.3x74R on a Hagn medium, scoped ,at 8lb. I would prefer something a little heavier. But considering the light weight of some 9.3 doubles, 8lb seems ok. then again, a 9.3 single would frustrate me, a 9.3 Brenneke on an m98 makes much more sense for me. I like the brenneke not cause I can run it faster than the 9.3x62, but cause it has the case capacity to decently push the 320 Wooleigh as well as run the other pills, not necessarily that much faster(although certainly possible) than the 9.3x62/74r but at lower pressures for hot climates. A 320 WL@2350 I believe would not let me down. Barrel length I was considering for the Hagn was 26" with about .610" muzzle. The Brenneke would have a 25" or 1/2" more with about a .630" muzzle for me. If you really want a light weight, the Hagn small action at 2lb (medium 2.5lb)will handle the 9.3x74r no problems. Good luck with your project Captain. By the way, I had alook at Nosler Ammo, they offer 9.3x74r 286gnPart.@2430fps....26" tube will give you even more, and I dont think you will find it too long once you see and handle a s/shot around that length. The shortest I would ever go would be around 23" and only if I had a very particular task in mind for the rifle. Some guys like to be able to hold the rifle pionting down beside them but not have the tube touch the ground, or not have the muzzle above their head when its strapped to their back, when treking through very thick&steep country.

Hello Captain, IMHO, I would want a minimum rifle weight of 7,5 lb, ideally I would look for 8 lb. As for the barrel length 55-56 cm (22 in) is the length I would choose, but you can get by perfectly with a 20 in (51 cm) barrel or go for the old European standard of 23.6 in (60 cm). Cheer´s

Some manufacturers is Europe build doubles with 25.5" barrel lengh, and because the action is very short, they are well balanced rifles. I own one one of them, it weights 8.2 lb, and it works as a 23.5" barrel lenght 9.3x62. It is very handy, and I use normally for drive hunting. For snap shots is suberb. Ignacio Colomer
