Who has one in a hunting rifle?

Is it a relatively light rifle?

Is the recoil manageable in said light rifle?

Pictures......

Thinking about getting one, have always liked the cartridge.....

recommend a builder....

I have two of them,Rem 700 & a Dakota African, have used both of them for hunting PG in Africa, both weigh around 10 lbs each, recoil is not bad,but I am used to shooting big bores, you can see pics on Gunbroker for the Remmie, the Dakota website has pics of the African,I like this caliber for hunting, packs enough energy to match my 470 NE,hits game like a hammer,my last trip,I dropped a wildebeest @ 240 yards, bullet used was 250 gr Tsx.

I have shot a .338 Lapua for some years now for Elk as has a grandson and son. Coupled with a tough bullet like North Fork-Barnes TSX-Nosler Partition-Nosler Accubond, they are extremely effective. If you don't like recoil stay on the porch. I bought mine used and it had a Muzzle Brake and it helps considerably. It is one of my most accurate rifles. Good shooting.

It would be nice if the inexpensive rifles like Ruger Hawkeye would load this.

I got my .338 Lapua from a shooting buddy who set up the Sako Model 995 in order to beat my .340 Wby. I shot it for him and set up a super accurate load. He then shot the rifle and it rocked him hard. He had the Muzzle Brake put on it and it still rocked his cage so he sold it to me for a song. He was happy and so was I, although I didn't particularly need it, I couldn't pass up his offer. Good shooting

I've got a like-new HS Precision sporter weight (not tactical) hunting rifle in 338 Lapua that I picked up recently. I ordered and received a 50-round "test pack" of loads using the new Barnes MXR 265gr bullet made just for the Lapua. They are in grain increments of powder to find the rifle's "sweet spot" with that bullet. But I really don't have a use for it, and will probably sell it if someone is interested.

It probably costs more than a Ruger Alaskan?

$2,495 including the $265 ammo and new 30mm Warne bases and rings. Maybe a Ruger Alaskan with a Schmidt & Bender Police Marksman on it? :-)

Am I missing something?

338 Lapua, aka 338-416 Rigby seems a bit too big in diameter fit in a Remmie 700 magazine box.

The Rem 700 is a detachable single stack mag. I shot one with a built in brake. it wasn't too bad, very accurate.

Glen Seekins makes really nice bottom metal /magazines for the Rem700 or clones of for the 338 Lapua. Three, five and I think now 10 shot single stack..I Have used them for the new 338 Norma Mag based cartridges also.

Have a Sako 995. Wonderful rifle. Only used on deer and groundhogs. It works well.
