Tom, it looks like you are in the market for a new thumper. So far you have asked about, .338 Federal, .338-06, 350 Rem mag, and now the 325 WSM. Why don't you just lay it out for us? What are you going to be hunting? Under what conditions? What's important to you in this new rifle? Are you looking for something off the shelf or custom?

________________________________________________ I have a couple 325's in the Kimber Montana. I have not shot anything with either. But, I like idea of the 325 with a 200gr TSX for me. Edit = I had just as soon have a M70 in the All-Weather version. I would not mind a bit more weight. Not recoil related, just a bit more weight for a steadier hold.

One of my contractors hunts with nothing else but his Kimber in 325 WSM. He likes the big hole he says....he has a killed a load of whitetails with it, a couple of smallish (250lbs) black bears and a couple of Audad. The bears and the whitetails, people can say what they like, but it put em down quick as anything else he used for them. The audad are damn sure tough critters, and he had good results with the 325 WSM on those also--he shoots a factory ammo with an Accubond, Winchester I am pretty sure. Good luck on your choice.

It has apparently become pretty popular. The shop were I trade always keeps two on the shelf. Usually a Kimber and a Browning. One of the guys I deer hunt with bought one last spring just because he wanted something bigger than his .270. Needed it like a hole in the head, but he very much wanted it. He seems to like it a lot. LWD

My PH in Namibia seems to be a fan of the 325 wsm. Personally, I would stick with a 338 win mag. ----------------------------------------------------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. Proverbs 26-4 National Rifle Association Life Member

I have a kimber in 325 if i had it to do over i would get a cooper 338-06 i had to put 225 rounds though the kimber before it stared to shoot and i still have a void in the stock that kimber will not replace reloading is a pain just like tha other wsm.

If they made it the .338 WSM I'd probably have one in the Remington M-7 as I'm quite fond of the short light rifles and the M-7 is that. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." There are wayyyyyyyyy too many calibers and their variations to speak of, and the 325 is just another one that will do exactly what a dozen others will do but at a higher price. Ive settled on the 338 win mag for beasties, and the 300wsm for my plinker/smaller beasties.

I picked up a Kimber 8400 select grade as a trade from the identical rifle in 270wsm. I agree that it doesn't solve any problem that other rounds could not do but I just wanted to try something new and I was sick and tired of my 300win Mag. I had a 338win mag but my 375 H&H and my 9.3 RUM can handle any chores the 338 can do. I like big bores and probably got the 325 because it was bigger than a 30 cal. I'd rather have a 318 Westly Richards. Brad

That's why I prefer my 8x68S over the 325 WSM; good hunting bullets in 8mm would be the 200 and the 220 grs(or the 180 x) Those will be seated too far in the 325 case. In the 8x68S they will sit perfectly down to the shoulder. M

I agree if I had to buy a 8mm rifle again I'd opt for the 8mm rem mag but I got the 325 in a trade may sell it may not I just haven't used it enough to know right now. Brad

Why the 325 WSM, Why not. I'd say its about want, not need. How can you go wrong with a chambering that has good sectional density & ballistic co-efficient, will propel a 180 gr pill at +/- 2850 fps, in an 8 lb. rifle and scope combo. My first was a Kimber that shot lights out. It worked fine of hogs and deer. My latest, a Christmas present to myself. Nosler was offering an $800 NRA discount. I couldn't resist. Nosler Model 48 Custom Sporter, 325 WSM, Leupold 3.5 x 10 Vari X III, with illuminated Reticle Hadn't wrung it out yet. Kinda breakin' it in. But I think it's going to be a shooter. GWB

Here's how my Kimber 8400 325 WSM shoots with 4 different loads including one factory: I can't imagine what animal short of dangerous game I couldn't cleanly kill with a 200gr TSX at 2950fps. I made my longest shot ever on a whitetail (just 347yds) with the Kimber 325, absolute bang-flop. I have a couple 338 Win Mags, killed my first Elk with one. But realistically the 325 will kill anything they will in a rifle that weighs about 2lbs or more less. I prefer short actions and non-belted cases also. I've had a couple batches of 338 Win Mag brass that the shoulders varied .040 from case to case. I know that the 338 is supposed to headspace on the belt, but you will get better accuracy if you headspace your 338's on the shoulder. You really need to fireform your 338 brass and then headspace off the shoulder if you want the best accuracy in 338. This is not an issue with the 325. If you want heavier 250gr bullets then the 338 is superior, I'm just not so sure that with today's deep penetrating bullets that a lighter 200gr 8mm TSX doesn't penetrate just as well as a conventional 250gr 338 would, and it recoils less doing so. So I guess if you like lugging heavy rifles that kick hard and shoot heavy bullets stick with the 338 Win Mag. If you like a light handy short action that's more accurate and just as deadly look at the 325............................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................
