Got my tax return the other day,
Felt rich for about 36 hours. Went looking for a .308. Started looking at kimbers, whats not to like there.
But had just about decided on a hawkeye.
But found a winchester 88.
I just like it. The price was a little high , but I decided that if the guy would come down from 695.00 to 600.00 I would buy it.
He did & I did. It came with a bushnell scope chief 2.5X8 in weavers,
Came home and switced it to burris zee rings, looked it up in the brown book , and its a 1960.
I loaded some 180 grain round nose bullets and some 165 grain hot cores. about 1.5 grs below max.
It feeds them great right out of the factory magazine. no problem.
I will probaly load up some 150 grain hot cores too.
I am thinking I will use the rn's for the factory fold down site , and the spitzers for the scope.
never owned an 88 but its prety cool.
Never owned a scope chief either. Were they a low end bushnell ?
The rifle will be getting its own scope one day but I will use the bushy till then...tj3006

Thomas, you are a lucky man!

Try 42.5 or so of IMR 4064 and a 165 BT or similiar bullet... bet less than MOA.

Good shooting

The Scope Chief was one of their better scopes. I'd keep it on there myself.

We have my Dad's 88 with a Scope Chief IV with command post reticle. Turn a ring and a post flips up on the lower leg of the crosshairs. Shoots great!

Enjoy.

Thanks for the cordial and positive replies.
I will consider keeping the Bushnell.
I am going to go shoot it this morning , and I will try .308 sakos data, in my 2nd batch.
Except I might go with a flat base.
I will keep you posted...tj3006
