Well it's about impossible to find a short action l.h. bolt. I can get a l.h bolt in .270 and a friend gave me a .270 die set. Does the .270 recoil much more than a 708 or 308. The rifle is for my 12 yr. old.

Savage makes them now, and Winchester and Browning both list them for 2003. The .270 will likely kick more than either the 7-08 or .308 in rifles of the same weight due to its larger powder charges, but a lot depends on bullet weight and stock fit. George

animal you said that you are looking to get your 12 yr. old a gun .if you are looking for a deer gun that don't kick much its worth looking in to either a .243win. or a 25-06 both of these guns are good for thin skinned animal like deer , antelope.etc. one shot kills when you hit the mark------> (+) Idaho Bob

Browning is going to offer their Micro Hunter in LH. A 708 and 308 are among available calibers. TTS

It may take some looking, but Remington has made the 700 short action in left hand. I got one in 308, about 15 years back. Don't see em around much. Ed

Take the 270 and run with it. Looks like you are going to load your own - so just load a 130 grain bullet with a light load. A 140 grain bullet in a 7mm-08 with say 42 grains of powder at 2800 fps vs 130 grain 270 with 52 grains of powder at 2800 fps should kick exactly the same - given the same gun weight and stock style. Then later when the the child get older, you can load it up. If you don't want the LH 270 and it's a decent price, please let me know. I need one for my son.
