...but I just passed on a chance to buy a NIB Ruger M77 RSI stainless in 6.5x55 Swede. Just can't seem to bring myself to carry stainless rifles anywhere but to the BR range, or to the seacoast heavy timber. To me they just don't exude the same ambiance as nice blue (or even worn to mottled grey) steel.

But, does anyone know if Ruger is making the same rifle chambering in blue RSIs now? I do really like those little M77 RSIs. The only two I have shot so far have been real barn-burners for accuracy...a 7m/m-08, and a .308, both older models.

What was the stock like? I love the cartridge but I'm not a big Ruger fan. If it were me though, and I liked the rifle and stock and it was a good deal, then I would jump on it and have the metal coated.

I was always a polished blue and walnut aficionado also. I was won over to the stainless and walnut with my first Marlin Guide gun. I was then lucky enough to find a Ruger RSI, stainless/walnut in 257 Bob. It has become one of my favorite rifles. Accuracy is just under MOA with factory loadings and is a pleasure to carry and shoot. They grow on you. You just need to take the first step.

Stock has nice wood for a 21st Century Ruger, and in brand new condition, as the rifle is still NIB. Price is $550. I have no idea if that is a good deal or a bad deal.

Doesn't matter. I'm not gonna pay for a new standard production rifle just to start throwing a bunch more bucks at it re-making it. I already have maybe 50-70 nice sporters in that same performance range, including a late Carl Gustav 6.5x55 stocked by G&H, so really don't need it. BUT, if it was a factory new RSI in blue steel and walnut, then.........

That chambering in the RSI was made for a special distributor run. Lipsey's. My 257 Bob was made special for them also. Not offered in the standard blue RSI.

Thank you, Wizard. Exactly what I wanted to know. The rifles I just looked at came from Lipseys. (This 6.5x55 & a 7mm-08.) Matter of fact, I set this dealer up with Lipseys a few years ago, and that's why he always gives me good deals (low prices, first refusal rights, or both) on new Rugers...he's made a lot of money out of that connection.

Ah... feel comforted, AC, and try to look at it from a positive side:

1. You have saved money for a better 6,5x55.

2. And if you decide against a 6,5x55, you have still saved money for another real rifle ;-).

3. Sabatti. Just buy a small, elegant, compact and yet classy Sabatti.

Well, actually I have more than that. I have 50-70 sporters in roughly that range....i.e., from .243 bore to .323 bore.
(By "in that range", I really mean in the "appropriate for various sized deer or black bear" range.)

I have another 20-30 sporters in bigger bores than those, and probably 15-25 again in the .17 and .22 bores. Then, there are my target rifles and military rifles....... and over the years I have sold several hundred I used to have. I have spent the last 60+ years buying, building, and experimenting with rifles. It is what I wanted to do with my life, and I was lucky enough to be able to do it. Soon enough I will be looking up at the grass, but it will have been an interesting ride....

Now you have raised my curiosity Carcano. I am totally unfamiliar with the Sabatti line. Can you post more info? If not, I'll go see what I can find on Google about it (them?)...

You asked for it Canuck!! BUT, I agree with you about stainless rifles, guess that's why I still hunt with "plain blue" Mannlicher-Schoenauers. The 6.5x55mm is a great cartridge, especially with those long 156 grain bullets.

I can do w/o an 18" bbl 6.5x55, but I do really like my 22" K1A #1. The 7/08 might get a tad better powder burn in that short a bbl if that matters, but these will be used more for a woods rifle IMHO by hunters who use them so it may be moot.

I'd imagine the handling is nice on them and agree a blue wood is more 'traditional' styling.

Sorry, Seafire it isn't/wasn't at Roseburg Gun Shop. Actually, it sold right after I posted this thread about it.

Also, I would have answered you much sooner, but just finally revisited this thread just now. Therefore didn't see your inquiry 'til now.

If there is a dealer in GP who wants to, he can order one directly from Lipsey's wholesale. They are currently delivering them.
