My 338-378 has shot some 1/4" groups at 100 yards with 250 gr Nosler Partitions .It is always accurate as long as you shoot it about 60 times then fully clean it.If you shoot it more than 60 times it will start to shoot patterns.I have two of them and its now my favorite long range gun.I find myself using it 95% of the time up here. Its about the best gun for the money.I gave $1000 for each of mine new.I stored up a bunch of brass.I got a deal on 416 weatherby and necked it to .375 then 338-378.The brass is very strong and I have loaded it up to 15 times. It is one of the finest long range rifles made.

Gee Tez I would love one I bet you can't wait to shoot some stuff with it !!

You would also be able to drive the big woodleigh 300 gr bullets at meaningful speeds if you want to whop some scrub bulls etc. with that big case.

Well I've just changed my cal.
No longer getting a 338-378,still getting a Accumark but now in 340Wby Mag.

Fare wait from the US on these(338-378).And always liked the 340Wby cal, which are in stock.Thought bugger-it that will do.
On the plus side components are abit cheaper but you do loose a little power.

No brake this time & cheaper($250) in this combo.Should be in my hot hands soon.

What scope you going for ??

I have a ruger stainless laminate .338 winnie and I have a 3-9 leupold on it.

I am currently shooting 225 gr Woodleigh protected points and am very happy with the performance.

I would love a .338-.378 but it looks as though I may need to get a new shotgun and those U/O's for a decent one are not cheap Frowner

2-7x33 Vx11 with QR's/super low rings

How do the 225 gn Woodleigh's hold up close range(20m-100m) in your 338WM?
As this is one of the projectiles I'm thinking about loading up.

Cant see the 340Wby showing any difference(Between 50-300m) in the field compared to the 338-378Wby.
What do you think?

beer

the 225 gr woodleighs gave surprisingly good results on thinner skinned stuff if you get my drift, but I have never recovered one, I reckon they are a great all round pill, my load is win case fed 215m Gold match primer and 68 gr of AR2209, getting .50c sized exit holes on chest shots on thin skinned game.

In relation to your cal choice I doubt it will make much difference but if you really do want the .338-378 hold out for it as you may regret down the track.............................I would really like a .338-.378 thats for sure !! I would mount a 4.5-14 leupold on it of a 3.5-10 leupold !!

The nos 225 gr accubond is another good pill I use the 200 gr .308 nos accubond in my .300 RUM and so far am very impressed with it.

Don't have one myself but would sure like one, don't even need one, but who said need is a prerequisite of owning another gun!!

I do have a .330 Dakota however which is part way there I guess, it loves 250 partitions at around 2850 fps ahead of 84 grains of H-4831 and will hold at around 1 inch for 3 or even 4 shots
lately I have tired 210 TSX's wghich show early promise,, habe not chrono'd them yet but should be over 3,000fps.

I like the thought of the big Weatherby but I would struggle to use it to its potential here in the U.K. Probably in Aus you will get the chance to use it to its real potential possibly even with 300 MK's, that would be a real long range hammer
