Anyone have experiences with Hart Barrels in a light sporter, or Mtn rifle contour?

I have been using a very light contour stainless 28" Hart barrel in 6.5x53-R on a Ruger No. 1 for the last 20 years. It still shoots groups as small as .6, averaging just under 1 MOA by a "10th" or so. I like Hart barrels very, very much and have no fear in recommending them for any smokeless powder use. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Please tell me more about this 6.5x53R cartridge? Is it based on the 7.62x53R? Thanks, KB ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Excellent barrel. I have a #1 contour on my Ruger 270, 25.5" Shoots as accurate as any other custom rifle I shoot. I wouldn't hesitate to own additional Hart barrels. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

No, that would make a VERY interesting cartridge, but that's not this one. This rimmed one has been around since at least 1892, and was an army service rifle cartridge for both the Netherlands and Roumania. With the rim removed, it was introduced in 1900 as a Greek service cartridge, called the 6.5X54 Mannlicher Rimless...and then introduced in the 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer sporting rifle, where it became very popular world-wide as the 6.5 Mannlicher-Schoenauer. Basically, the 6.5x53-R and the 6.5x54 M/S are identical except the M/S cartridge is rimless. Both cartridges, rimmed and rimless, shoot interchangeably in my Ruger No. 1. EDITED TO ADD: You asked about lightweight barrels, but Hart quality is the same in all their barrels...outstanding!! I currently also have Hart barrels on 5 competitive benchrest guns, and they all shoot just great...good enough for a skilled shooter to win with, anyway.

I have 6 Hart barrels in 6PPC, 6 REM, 6/284 Win, .257 Ackley, 6.5/284 Win, .308 Win w/.340 neck. The last was pictured on the cover of their information brochure, with a rather special deer. I have found their barrels to be among the finest and they clean up well. The 6.5/284 is the most accurate rifle I have ever seen, yes it beats the 6PPC HB. I would use their services without hesitation. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

I had my first Hart barreled rifle built in 1968, and have been using them ever since for stainless barreled rifles. I have never had one of the many rifles I have with Hart barrels ever not shoot well. Of course part of the accuracy equation rests with the gunsmith too, so I let Jim Hart do the smithing. He is very good. For rifles I want to have blued, I use CM barrels made by Douglas. They have always shot well too. I bought my first one of them in 1960, for a 22-250. So, I only use two barrel makers, Hart being one of them. They have always treated me right too. Don

Mea culpa. I had a couple of English bolt sporters with the long barrels too;one was a Gibbs, don't recall the maker of the other one. Made the mistake of selling them and couldn't find another at a price I could afford as the "English" values skyrocketed. That's why I had Paul Marquart build the No. 1. (Didn't use a Marquart barrel because in the last 10-15 years of his shop, Paul didn't make barrels with a bore smaller than 7 m/m.) It's nice to know someone else suffers the same addiction to those neat old stalking-on-the-moors rifles. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

I would recommend them to anyone. I bought one from Midway also & had a 338-06 put together. it shoots great, the barrel cleans up very well. I think that you are just as well off buying directly from Hart though.
