Going to Maine black bear hunting and will be takeing a .308 Win and am up in the air as to useing 150gr Sierra Game Kings or the 180's, both fly very well out of this rifle. Shot they tell me are pretty close.( Under 25 yds )
I love Seirra bullets and never have had any problems using the Game Kings for hunting but I still err on the side of heavy bullets. I'd personally use the 180's for any animal heavier built than a deer. I used 200 grain bullets for my bear hunt in SE AK, because I needed an excuse to use the ones I collected on my bench.
180's. Black bear can pack on the fat/muscle, so a little extra heft is more than welcome, especially at those ranges. You needn't be worried about trajectory since you can probably spit on them that close, and the lower muzzle velocities will prevent bullet failure at short range.

I took a black bear in AK with a 300 Win with 180 grain bullets. I would not hesitate to use the 308 with the 180 grain. I like the heavier bullets for caliber.
