The thread about .35 cals forced me to decide on using one for elk hunting this November.

I finished this one last winter but only sighted it in....no load work up...so here's the way it turned out.

First attempt with Varget.....I was way over max on Hodgdon's website and still under the 2750 goal so I gave up....especially when there was evidence I was in the 60,000 PSI range.

So I tried RL-15 and worked up to the max on Nosler's website.....I was still under 2750 but not by much so called it good enough....again I suspect I'm about 60,000 PSI

Here's the rig and 100 yard target!.....I'm ready to go!

(Bluing and engraving by Toomany Tools)

But here's the reason I quit working up....and the right hand hole is a called error on my part!

There are five shots in this group

So what are we all taking elk hunting this fall?

Vapo,

Absolutely beautiful rig. Awesome shooting as well. I would say you couldn't be better armed for elk. Good luck!

IMO that's real good shooting for irons.....Ought to drop elk a long ways away.

I also use the 250 accubond in my 9.3 X 62

Thanks Vapodog. That was the first group I shot with this setup at 100 yards. Also have some 250 grain TSX loaded up as well. Wish I had taken the scope off years ago. Gun handles faster and better now. I'm confident out to 300 yards after spending some time at the range.

I've seen them within a mile of here.....but drawing a tag is nearly impossible and when you do.....the trespass fee to lands they frequest are about the same as going to Utah or Colorado...

Maybe someday but this fall I'm headed for western Colorado.

I'm shooting the 100 gr TTSX @ over 3100 fps. Groups are running around 3/4 MOA. Caliber is 257 Roberts.

Charley,

Before I even saw your "CAS II" moniker, I thought that rifle looked like something you would build.

By the way, Lee should have sent you my barreled action and Legend stock in 9.3x62. If it's done, and no pressure, on your part, I'll take it along for my Utah elk hunt a month from today.

Is that a VX3 2.5-8?

I finished stocking this .300 Weatherby Vanguard a year ago. I still had a full freezer last year, so I didn't shoot an elk, but this year there's room. It likes both 168 gr and 180 gr Barnes TSX bullets.

This will be the first year that I'll using this rifle for elk, unless it's raining, then I'll use my factory plastic stocked SS Rem 700 in 7mm Rem mag shooting 160 gr Accubonds. Either rig is good elk medicine.

Gorgeous firearms. guys.

It is a moot point now, but I was going to carry a White .504... The reason I say was, is that one week ago yesterday I had surgery to fuse C-4 and C-5 neck vertebrae. I drew an early muzzleloader elk tag for SE Idaho, but the surgery is going to make my trip this year a non-event.

Oh well... maybe I will get lucky and draw again next year.

Really nice Rifle Vapodog. Is that a Dakota Safety?

What does it weigh? That is the problem for me anymore.

If I can figure out where to go that has an over the counter tag I am going to use a Kimber Montana in .325 WSM with as light a scope as possible.

My shooting isn't near as good. I am happy when I can keep 5 shots inside an 8 inch paper plate. Big Grin
