tc98new rifle opinions wanted
Have you put your hands on a Mod. 70 Extreme Weather yet? If so, what did you think.
Really like my 308. I think it would be a perfect fit for a one gun man in a 300 WSM. with a Zeiss Conquest 3X9. JMO
Good Luck

I was having a hard time deciding between 300wm and 300wsm. The things i wanted was stainless and a laminated stock with no blind floorplate. i would prefer a mag but a hinged floorplate is acceptable. something else i would like to have is a user friendly adjustable trigger. the only rifle that i have found that fits those things is the ruger hawkeye sporter. and that rifle is not offered in wsm. so what do most think of these rifles? are there any common problems with them? are they fairly good shooters or tend to need some work?
You seem to be decided upon the 300 WSM. What sort of elk hunting in particular do you expect? I.e. what sort of range, terrain etc? Unless you're planning on making some really long range shots, a 30-06 will get the job done just as well. It also has other advantages, such as availability and price (rifles chambered in it, ammo, reloading components etc.) Don't get me wrong, the 300 WSM is a fine compromise between a 30-06 and the bigger 300's. Its just that it is not as common (obviously, as you can see by the fact that the rifle model you prefer is not available in it) and may not be necessary.

sksshooterkenny not necessarily decided on the wsm was just an option between the 2 at the begining. the more i look at it though im leaning towards the win mag.
with all this time to look around before making a purchase i keep going back to if i really even need that much gun. i have a 270wsm now that is more than adequate for what i hunt and i suspect would be plenty enough gun for elk. BUT since i will be buying anew gun any way i figured i would go ahead and step up and have plenty of gun for anything i ever plan to hunt and then download it for my deer hunting needs or just buy another gun that i like in 270wsm. and keep the one i have for a backup.
then i have that other thing to consider ive already collected brass, bullets 3 different assortments of hornady, and dies to load 300win so i almost have to get a gun now.

44magLeoSavage has a nice lineup of rifles with the accutrigger. Fully adjustable by you.
They aren't the most expencive but not dirt cheap. I have the Stevens 200 in 270 Winchester. The trigger has a set screw for the return spring pressure, so you can tune the pull weight.

metricFor the rifle I would go for a Blaser, Sauer, Sako or Tikka.
I would take the 30-06 before the magnums. If you need something that hits harder I would go for the 8x68S og the 338 WM.
