I want to know if anyone is shooting the 8mm WSM yet? In what gun? What is happening on the reloading end? Have you chronoed yet? What kind of accuracy? Have you used it on game & w/ what results?

I've always like the 8mm (all of them) They seemed better suited to "all around" than the .30s. If I'm hunting where there are big unglies that bite, I'm leading toward something bigger - .32s, .33s, .35 or .375. If deer is my regular w/ just the occasional elk, it always seemed that the .27 & .28 were a better options than the .30.

I saw a guy at the range shooting the 8 / .325 WSM in a Browning A-Bolt of some flavor... It looked like it was rocking him pretty good. I didn't know the guy nor do I know how good of a shooter he is or is capable of being, but his groups were around the 2" mark (factory ammo). We spoke about the gun and he said he had purchased the rifle for a upcoming trip out west (being Idaho, if I'm not mistaken in his remarks) for an Elk hunt.

Just looking at the paper specs for the round and what one can get OTC, it would seem that the .325 WSM might appeal to those wanting a shorter magnum type round in a slightly lighter gun.

I shoot a 338/300 WSM it is right at about 8 lbs all set to go. It'll get your attention a bit but nothing to fret over.

Why does it always seem like people coming out west for elk always practice off a benchrest.

I haven't seen a benchrest in the field. I try to find them every year though!!!

hijack lol

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

A lot of people have been slamming the 325 WSM cartridge, but many seem to forget the advantage of any new cartrige addition to a neglected bore diameter. Namely, new bullet offerings! Anybody who has 8mm rifles will benefit from this new arrival. Nosler has created the 200 gr accubond and I have heard that Woodleigh will be making 8mm protected point bullets with higher bc's. I own a 8mm Mauser rifle and plan on making an 8mm Rem mag rifle, so any new bullets are greatly appreciated.

You must be a pretty good shot if you do all your load developement and sighting in off hand or sitting. Razzer

Seirrabravo45,
Know what you mean about shooting benches. I use to carry one with me in the feild till I turned 40.

It utterly amaizes me how meny guys spend endless hours and countless rounds on the bench, and damn little time shooting from actual positions thay will be forced to use in the feild. I have won more than one shooting compition once we moved to shooting sticks or sitting/kneeling/standing positions after we left the bench.

Once I selct my load and sight my rifle in, I spend only enough time on the bech to re-conferm my zero. Then its strictly in the feild shooting positions, after I might add 25-30 squat-thrusts.

If you realy wish to test your self try this: Put on you pack with all the gear you will have in it while hunting or an equivilant weight, sling your rifle, and sprint hard for 100yrds, do 25 squat-thrusts and then see how meny rounds you can keep in the kill zone at 100yrds and beyond.

Ballard,
I'm looking at the new Woodleigh 220gr PP SN as I type. For your info its 1.328" long and has a BC of 0.448 and SD of 0.302. Recommended impact velocity is being given as 1900-2900fps. A 200gr PP SN has also been released ... both fresh fodder for my 8mmRemMag. These new Woodleighs may finally be an answer/replacement for the old Hornady 220gr Interlock which had a great reputation.
Cheers...

For anyone who gives a rip....

I was looking on the Ruger Web Site earlier.. and saw that they are chambering the 325 WSM in their Model 77 Mk 2 Stainless with a Synthetic Stock....

And then....

IN their Frontier Model with the 16.5 inch ( or is it 18 inch) barrel.....

Pull the trigger on that and that should wake you up quickly!!!!!It would be cool to see the muzzle blast on a dark night!

cheers

Some of us are actually good enough to do so from prone.
