Wondering if anyone on here has loaded Win 760 in their 280 AI?

I ask because I was loading 60.3grs in the standard .280 with 140gr Accubonds when I had my Remington 700 Mountain rifle and hitting 3100 fps, so I'm thinking of Win 760 as the powder when I get my Kimber .280 AI.

Was going to standardize on a 150 / 160gr, just wondering if 760 may be a bit fast with those heavier weights?

R17 might be a better choice.

kiwiwildcat..? let me get this straight. you was loading 60.3 grains of W760 in a standard 280 rem. 140.? I was loading 52.0 grains of W760 in my 280 rem. 140 at max 2900 fps.. I was loading 60.5 of W760 in my 7MM Rem. mag at 3050 fps. I am also loading 53 grains of H4350 in my 280 Rem. max.. I don't think you can even get 60 grains of powder in a standard 280 rem.? double check your notes..

I have used 760 some and used a lot of H414 with many calibers like the 7x57, 30-06, 308 and others..760 and H414 are the same powder for all practical purposes..Ive used both with the same grainage..I get my best velocity with these two powders and they are close to RL-19 and I suspect RL-17..Im sure of one thing, it will work great in a 280 std. or Ackley, and probably give you the highest velocity is my educated guess..

I suppose that would depend on the chamber and length of the 280s throat, a long throated 280 would take that load in a 280 IMO, but have not tried it, just suggestion how it can possibly be done with WW760 or H414..

He was hitting 3100 fs from a "Mountain rifle". I dont think that his notes are the issue here. shocker

Since 51.0 grains of H-414 is maximum in Hodgdon’s online data, giving 2867 fps, the OP is either confused, or trolling.

I would give thanks to God that you are still alive. Try RL-17, as mentioned above, AC100, Norma URP, or MRP, H-4350, or such. 760 is quite suitable, but shoot for a muzzle velocity of 2,850 fps. Over 60-grains of W-760/H-414 would blow my model 70 in 280 Rem into many pieces, and deprive me of my left hand, and either, or both of my eyes. if you want 3,100 fps with a 160-grain bullet in 7mm, try a 7mm Weatherby. I am happy to get 2,950 fps with a 160-grain out of my 7mm Rem Mag.

I have used 52 grs, of H414 in a long throated 7x57 mauser with 140 gr. Nosler in new brass without any problems. The long throat is basically a 7x57 Ackley, if one does both long throat and blown out shoulder, one could probably do even better..

I used 48.5 grs of H414 with a 175 gr. Nosler in those same long throated 7x57 guns for 2600 FPS., never saw the need for the IMP version. Brass was trimed every 4 reloads, and I got 10 to 14 reloads,so I know it can be done with a 7x57 then why are some claiming they cant even get 51 grains in a 280 case??

Did this for years, or until RL-19 came out. My latest long throated 7x57 custom rifle won't allow this for whatever reason so its strictly an RL-19 rifle. tight bore or whatever, but very accurate and gets almost the same velocity.
