From the poll results on the Remington site, it appears the Remington employees are out in force, as the .300 RUM is in the lead by a mile. No other logical explanation. How else could a boringly redundant cartridge get chambered in a rifle named "Classic?"

The 300 RUM was introduced, what....3...4 years ago? I just looked at the poll results on the Remington site. The results almost make me sick. How can folks want a rifle model referred to as the Classic to be chambered for a cartridge that was introduced so recently? I thought that the purpose of the Classic was to resurrect cartridges that have fallen to the wayside. I will never own an Ultra Mag and the more Remington does, the more they turn me off. Just my opinion, but I thought I would vent a little. BTW, if any of you guys feel the same way, I think you ought to go to the Rem site and vote for the 8X57. I have an old M98 that my grandfather sporterized a long time ago in this caliber, and would like to see this cartridge brought back, even if it is ever so briefly. FWIW, Wyo

I also heard a while back that it would be an 8x57. There are plenty of rifles offered in the Ultramags, and I'd be a little mad if they decided to chamber these one-caliber-a-year rifles in it. I like the idea of being able to pick up a new rifle in an old, not so common anymore caliber. Ultramags are fine, but not in a CLASSIC!

PS- Wyo, do I sense a little .300 H&H pride out of ya? Just messin' buddy. See ya in a few days

I like to see the 6.5 Rem Mag myself. Don't believe anyone makes one right now.

I held the new classic last night. We got three of them in. It IS the 8x57. It has a long action and a 24 inch barrel. Looks good. I also held the Guide Gun (673) chambered in 6.5 Rem. Mag. No ammo out there yet, but the rifle is here.
