Should i Buy it ?
Found a cool 270 today,
Its a side safety FN one of my favorite actions,
Its been restocked in a the fashion of the late 50s and early 60s with the exaggerated roll over cheek piece and big pistol grip and little wooden inlays.
Its a good rifle even with the ugly stock, and the price is 525.00.
The negative is the weight, it is a heavy barreld action to start with , and the stock is a ton more wood than needed.
But i have a very good lightweight 270 now, in a Husqvarna, witch is great but has a short barrel.
For still hunting mule deer this old belgian rifle would be excellent. i have a couple stocks here that would fit it, and a good stock guy could reshape the one it has now.
What do you think ? ...tj3006

Of course you should buy it. If you try to steal it, you might get caught and go to jail.

I wouldn't with a roll over stock and the heavy 1950s rifles sucked.. Smiler I could buy a better rifle for that or perhaps just a little more..I bought a pre 64 fwt. a while back for just a little more. ya gotta shop.

I don't suppose you could rework the stock, removing at least the roll-over? On the other hand, there was a philosophy behind that rollover beyond the funky look: it made for a high, gently rounded comb that might be easier on cheekbones, while removing a little wood on the r/h side. You never know, maybe these stocks will themselves become collectable some day - and it comes with a genuine FN Mauser sporter action.

pretty sound reasoning gentelmen.
I do have a couple stocks here that fit that action, and the minute i dropped this action into one of them i would probably remember why i replaced them the 1st time around.
Ray is your Featherweight an 06 or a .270 ?
I have had a few over the years.a pre 64 featherweight 06 would be great , one sombody put a pad on so its not original And i can afford it.
A JC higgins Model 50 would be good to in 06 or 270...

Make an offer. I recently bought the same rifle only the barreled action had been relocated to a Parker Hale stock. The stock sux but the barreled action doesn't. It'll be restocked, and yes, it isn't gonna be a light weight, but then again, it makes for steady, good shooting long range rifle.

I snagged it for about $200 less than they're asking for the one you spotted. They were asking a good bit more.
