Hello all.

I know that the Krag rifle was also made in a 8m caliber, the 8*54 (Krag?)?.

Is these "just" a 6.5*55 necked up?
Anyone who have and use one?

Cheers all

I have to 8x54 KJ's. Yes, simply a 6.5x55 necked up. Ballisteics are not far off from an 8x57 but because both mine are built on 96 swede actions I tend to be rather conservative in my loadings.

Both mine are very accurate. I like em.

Do you have the chance to acquire one?

Thanks for the reply`s.
Z1r, no I do not have a Krag, sadly.
Are the two you have original? You mean the 8*54 is close to the 8*57I? Not the IS I guess.

A nice rifle made on a action from Norway is something I really like to have, one day....Just need to find a action.

Correct, both mine are original matching Swedes that have been rebored. One is actually a carbine. It is quite the potent LITTLE carbine.

Load data I obtained show a 200 grain bullets trailing the 8x57IS by a mere 100 fps. When you think about it, it makes sense, the 6.5x55 and 8x57IS, in military trim, operated at similar pressures.

The loads I developed were with 185 grain bullets. I don't have the data handy so I can't say how fast they were going. But I seem to recall 2400 fps as they were not maximum loads.

I have but haven't shot anything with it yet. I hunted with the Carbine. It is ugly as sin but I like it.

I will take the carbine out after pigs again sometime soon I hope.

The long rifle was a Vapen Depoten Falun conversion. It has seen lots of use but when it was new I bet it was quite the good looking conversion. The conversion itself is very interesting.

I am not certain as to who converted the carbine.

I have a Norg Krag that was rebored to 8mm. I have to assume it is the 8x54 but I have never shot it or taken a chamber cast....one day maybe unless I send it down the road. Too many projects.
You are aware the Danes also had a 8mm Krag, 8x58R

Here's a pic of the long rifle. Erase almost 70 years of use and you can see that new, it would have been a handsome rifle. The bore is still immaculate. It shoots tight little groups.

This is how I received the carbine:

I quickly fabricated a set of sights for it and proceeded to shoot about a 1" group at 100 yds with it. IMO, it as to be the handiest "truck gun" ever. Packs a plenty potent wallop!

As I said, ugly as sin but deadly. Kinda fun to trot out to the range, especially when displayed next to more handsome rifles.
