Basically do the various configurations come with fixed or detatchable mags?

Has anyone used the Police/patrol model carbine in 308 win?

And just how fast are these for follow up shots in the hands of an experienced owner?

Does anyone know of a newer model incorporating 223rem and an AR-15 type magazine?

I've got a pile of these fine rifles in many different calibers. They are accurate, dependable, and very underrated by rifle nuts and hunters.

Does anyone know of a newer model incorporating 223rem and an AR-15 type magazine? I'm not aware of a M7600 in .223 however, they made a few of the earlier M760's in .223. They are next to impossible to find and even more impossible to afford/justify.

I haven't seen the new Police .308 version yet. Should be an excellent hunting rifle.

Here I am in the woodwork. As fellow woodwork dwellers know, the 7600 engages the bolt lugs in the barrel rather than the receiver, and the barrel is fully free floated. The receiver itself is stiffer than the best bolt action.

They are very accurate right out of the box, inexpensive, reliable, compact and a joy to carry. They couple this accuracy with the ability to quickly cycle shots while on target.

Yes there are several providers of 10 shot magazines for the 7600. I am holding one for '06 made by USA magazines.

Thanks a heap guys. I am looking to get one of the police models in 308 . The big decision for me is what mags are available for various configs.Sabot is there a website for the 10 shot mags?

I wonder since they are producing the AR-15 type mags for the 223, what they might offer for the 308?

Otherwise I can have some high capacity mags custom made here -but very expensive.

Anyway don't let me cramp your style. Anyone else wants to talk about these things then keep 'exiting the woodwork' by all means.

Ya caught me crawling out of the woodwork, too!

Mine is a 35 Whelen with 21" barrel, magnaported. I bought it used 2 years ago. I bought it to replace a 760 in 30-06 that my father bought in the early 50's that was stolen along with all my other guns in 1981. It's almost as good. I miss the corn cob front end of the old pumpgun. It fit me so well.

THe police models are being offered in 308 and 223, the 223 model is set up to use the AR-15 mags, they are realy pushing them as patrol carbines,my department has 2 they are testing

Anybody know if a barrel for a 742 can be installed on a 760 or 7600?

I've got 3, a model Six in 6mm Rem., a 7600 in .35 Whelen and a 7600 sythetic carbine in .35 Rem. All shoot exceptionally well with the 6mm shooting about 3/4" with factory ammo. I can find very little to fault with these rifles. Their triggers are pretty tough and I have to be careful about certain bullets in the 6mm. Bullets with soft exposed lead tips flatten when fed from the magazine causing hang-ups but it feeds flawlessly with more blunt tips like the core-lokt or polly tipped bullets. I've seen the police rifle and it is indeed a neat little gun. Would make a heck of a woods rifle, much like my .35 Rem. carbine.

My 7600 35 W has a drop box magazine. Quick to reload, I have yet to blood it. Later. Packrattusnongratus

My 7600 is a 35 whelen also. I bought it new in the mid 90s. I have taken 2 blackbears and about 8 whitetails with it. All one shot kills. In fact all teh deer dropped where they stood. The bears made it about 2-3 steps beforethey fell.

It has become my favorite rile. As accurate as a bolt action & very reliable. It wont be long until it heads out again this season!
