I have shot way too much PG with solids, all I have noted is they may run a bit further with a solid but they leave decent blood trails out both holes..I have also noted the effect is better as the caliber gets bigger around..My favorite PG load is the 400 gr. GS customs FN or Cup Point on PG and if I need to shoot a Lion or buffalo along the way or even a mad elephant then I got the right gun in my hand to take care of camp meat or things that bite, stomp, claw or eat ya.
almost added "scratch ya and replaced with claw, because I never felt any need to shoot a flea or Tetsi fly with a big bore solid...

i dont know why people always compare or this caliber vs this caliber,if u are confident and know your rifle this is than best caliber for u,for americans 338 is better due ammo selection in stores, for europeans 9.3 is proven caliber on all continents, tody is to much drama with calibers, every single gun aficiendo inevting every few months new caliber nd claiming is best, personal i like proven calibers invented 19,to 20 century, than big fat ultra shorts and other magnums, hunting is not targeting animals, people paying more attention on how many yerd or meters killed animal than how quick they brought animal down, there is less and less hunting etics, respect for the animal, new tehnology bring hunting to nother level, wich in my opinion its not fair to wildlife,i try many calibers in my life, still personal i like medium velocity slow bullets ,momentum kilss not a velocity, overall i would take 9.3 over 338,its just personal doesnt mean is better,

All you say is true my European friend, but it makes for good conversation as long as it doesn't get too serious...Campfire stuff and it should be discussed like friends, as it would be over a cup of coffee in a snowed in camp, but some on the internet can get angry over a difference of opinnion, a take off from watching the news and seeing how our politicians operate in Washington perhaps!..

Its a breath of fresh air to discuss guns and hunting most of the time but there are always those who as unidentified persons seem to gain bravado and distract from the fun of talking guns and hunting..

TEU,

I am an American. Built a 9.3x62 for an Africa plains game rifle. AND yes, I do like the trajectory of a 270 Win. Found I like both so much that my NA 2 rifle "ready-to-go" case:

contains a 270 and that 9.3!!!

I'm convinced that when you understand the limitations of your marksmanship you should try to match the rifle and caliber to the game you hunt. Personally, the distance that I'm comfortable taking large game is about 300 yards. I hunt deer, elk and hogs so the 9.3x62 works well for me. I'm sure the 338 Win would work just as well but I have confidence in my 9.3.

Start young, hunt hard, and enjoy God's bounty.

I'm obsessed with Elmer Keith's experience. I like a long for caliber bullet at a moderate velocity. If the target is too far away be a good hunter and GET CLOSER. Make a hole going in and out. Let the air in and the blood out.

With a 243, 7x57 and a 9.3, the continent is covered from Pdog to the big bears and with some overlap as well.

I wonder what % of hoofed game is shot beyond 300 yds in this country.
