I got a Husqvarna 146 9.3x57 a few years ago.
The stock was a disaster, so I steamed out all the gouges, sanded, to keep the original profile and treated it with Sherall's schaftol, red and premium gold. It IS beautiful !!!!
I could not beleive the quality of the walnunt.
It is everything one would what in a custom rifle.
The metal was perfect, cold blued. The bore is perfect. It IS so nice.
Now, I got a wild hare. To have it punched out from the original 9.3x57 to 9.3x64.
Please help me with this.
Am I a fool for velociy, or just a fool?
I like velocity. It kills, and kills clean.
All my hunting rifles do at least 3200 fps.
And, all my game in the last 32 years has been with high velocity, on one shot kills.
What do you think?

If it was me, I'm a long time admirer of the 9.3x64.

9.3x57s are far from rare and you've already done some small amount of alteration so I say go for it if you want. But I will say that is a very light rifle in its current configuration and likely to kick the snot out of you, lol.

Post a picture.
If you have no attachment to the 9.3x57 variety by all means modify.
9.3x62 or 9.3x64 both seem to have a little over the "x57" variety, however the 9.3x57 seems very capable for its small stature.

The problem may be that your x57 chambre is a bit fatter than your "new" x64 chamber.

You MAY get a change of taper in fired cases.

I would leave well alone!

enfieldspares, i think, nailed it.
if you have to do it, make sure you cast the chamber to see if a ream will clean up on the original chamber diameters, even then, concentrity might rear up and bite you, ruining an otherwise perfectly capable good shooting original classic in a chambering that is, for most parts, way more capable than it's dimensions lead people to believe.

Although I am big fan of the x64, you would not go wrong with the x62.

In the US x62 cases are much easier to come by. But you also list Sweden as home, so you may have x64 cases readily available too.

You should check with a gunsmith.

In my limited knowledge, I think either would clean up the x57 chamber. The x62 would require no boltface alteration. The x64 would have to be opened up.

The recoil of the x64 is of no consequence to me, and I enjoy shooting my Brenneke's.

Nice batch of rifles posted above.

Nope, the 64 case is much larger than the 57. now, if you were just going up to the 62, then, you might have an issue as some 57 chambers were generous to the point that primarily the neck will not clean up with just a rechamber. Not an issue with the 64.

I have just such a rifle. One of my 57's is being transformed right now into a 64.

I think it's a bad idea. 9.3x64 will required bolt face and probably rail work to feed. It's likely to be quite crowded, reduce the number of rounds in the mag and to kick like hell. I'm a bit rusty but is the 146 a 96 or a 98 based action?

The x64 will only kick as much as you want it to. Load accordingly.

'96s have been made into 300 mags, etc. So a x64 should be no biggie.

The taper of the case will lend to minor alterations needed in making
it feed and the opening of the bolt face will be minute as well.

Another thing to consider is the 9.3's just aren't flat shooters. You will gain more energy but is anything you're shooting at now standing up to the 9.3X57's?

I'm not saying not to do it, just something to think about.

.404, you may require assistance with housing all your rifles and since I am a kindly soul, I will "look after" your Brno 21F and 21H rifles shown in your photo. Send them to me, properly insured and I will give them a good home, as I have no "stutzen" stocked Brnos at present.

Hasn't seemed to stop me.

The M146 is a 98 based design. The mag length is easily fixed. It is as simple a conversion as running a reamer in the chamber no, but neither is it like re-inventing the wheel.

I prefer the 286's in the 9.3x57.

Boys,I got plenty of room, but yes my center-fire count is approaching 60 rifles. I collect Mausers,Brno's,Mannlichers and P64 Win 70's.I shoot all of them, but travel with Rugers. They are much easier to replace....404
