I haven't seen much about the Colt Light Rifle lately. Are you guys still seeing these around and if so what are they going for? Thanks!

Nimrod308, There have been so few made and sold that there is no secondary market pricing. Around here, it's around the original wholesale pricing of $450-500. There's a guy here in town buying up every one he can find, thinking that the prices will escalate. I have a 270 and the friends who have them, all claim that they are accurate. The stock was designed by Mel Forbes of Ultra Light Arms. He sold his company and took it back when Colt could not complete the purchase agreement. A friend has a mis-stamped 30-06 rifle marked 270 by Colt. They will do nothing about it. Geoff Shooter

It's been several years since I had seen couple of those extra light black rifles in kal 06'. I would buy one of them Kimber Mtn rigs instead. At least they will still be made in the future, so if anything goes wrong.....well, you know.

If anyone is worried, they could buy a few parts proactively they THINK they might need from NULA. Not much to wear out, like a leaned out Rem 700 action uses a M16 or Sako style extractor. Hear great things on accuracy. Finish was a fine matte blue and actions very smooth. Sold 2 7mags as I just did not need that much gun, had they been 7/08 or 260, I'd never sold them.

I've got two. One as it came other than a skim bed on the tuperware stock that shoots some factory and most handloads sub MOA, right at 6 3/4 lbs with the really nice Talley rings that came with the rifle. Other has a NULA drop in stock from Mel Forbes that fit perfect, put in a Rem 700 trigger which dropped in just as Mel said it would and dropped 1/2 pound to 6 1/4 pounds (with the Talleys that came with it) and shoots slightly better than the stock rifle. This is now my go to rifle. Mel's stock seems to absorb recoil as this 7 Mag is easy to shoot even from the bench.

If you want to shoot them in 270, 7mm Rem Mag, 30-06, or 300 Win Mag, I think that the general consensus is that it is worth spending the extra $$ to buy a NULA stock from Mel Forbes. However, I think that the best use for a CLR is as an action donor that you send to NULA as the basis for a CLR/NULA hybrid. A CLR action with a NULA barrel, stock, and trigger. I figure about $500+/- for a NIB or close to NIB CLR and $1000+/- for NULA to install a barrel, stock, and trigger. I have been seriously thinking about doing a CLR/NULA hybrid in 7x57, but my hunting rig has required a new radiator and new starter within the past month, so I may have to wait awhile. Jeff

Thanks guys- I have one in .270 that I shoot a little. It shoots good and seems to be a good rifle for the money. I have found a NIB 30-06 that I can get at a good price I am thinking about just putting it away to see what happens with them. Thanks again-nimrod308
