As above, I top loaded a round with the magazine in the first detent, fired, and the magazine dropped out leaving me with no recourse but to pull the reserve. My thoughts were to load for a few rounds from the loading port then push the magazine home. Then I would empty the magazine by firing. Good thing old grizz wasn't closing in. Anyone know about this rifle? I knew of some early rifles doing this with the reserve mag but it wasn't the 5 rounder. It was the ten rounder with 180 gr loads. I am only using the 5s with 150 gr loads. Anyone dealt with this? I bought the Scout used so I guess a call to Steyr might be in order. I haven't dealt with them but other companies were not great to deal with. I thought I had called a politician! I will give them a proper chance Monday if I get off work in time. I believe they will be anxious to help. TIA Packy
Recoil will make the magazines on my Steyr Scout fall out if they are only inserted to the first level. Now, I just make sure the magazine is in all the way, and shoot from the magazine. Got my rifle in 2002.

I can do that. But the reason for the first detent is to top load. I wanted to test it. Failure. Any solutions, or is it a moot point? Perhaps I need to see a production date on my serial number.
