I would check the bedding and ensure you don't have a crack behind the recoil lug. I've had two of these German Mk Vs, 300 Wby, and both had cracked. Easy to fix by glass bedding, but that is a big problem on these. Almost as big a problem as a pre-64 Model 70 .375 for cracking there. Good advice on cleaning, and good ammunition. The 300 Wby is a great cartridge, I believe the best of the 300s. Many/most of the #1 contour (pencil) barrels will shoot very well. | |||

To answer your question (belatedly) I have an Ultra Lightweight 300Wby Mk V; my hunting mate has one the same... they both shoot .5" 3-shot groups @ 100m off a bench. I have owned 7-8 Mk V's and none were poor shooters. My son's go-to rifle is an U/L .308 Win Mk V... it shoots .5" with factory ammo. They are not everyone's cup 'o tea but they do shoot. | |||
