Just pcked up a #3 w/#1 wood not original as is in 250/3000, as I already own 1 250, wondering what I should rebarrel to? Something in a mid caliber with about a 26" barrel, fluted possibly, absolutly nothing that might require a brake. I am open to your suggestions?
Dang sell it to me!!!!That sounds like a neat rifle.I have seen a few nib 223 # 3 Rugers and some 45-70s .It probally is a fun gun to shoot.I would just shoot it or sell it.
I'd be very interested in the bbl when you decide to switch! I've got a .223 that doesn't get much use, but a 250-3000 would! Keep me in mind if you would.

300H&H interesting, I haven't a feel yet for what it will become. I will remember about the barrel, which is a #1 25/06 set back and rechambered-ends up at 22". Nice cartridge 100gr ballistic tip at aver. 2932fps with 35gr H4895 and recoil more like a 22/250. What about a 7mm WSM with 26" and short overall length= more effective barrel=a little more fps, right?
AFAIK, Ruger never chambered the #3 to 250-3000. If it has proper Ruger stamp marks, it might be one that a Ruger employe made on his own time. At one time, Ruger allowed their employees to make a on off rifle for personal use, and these non-standard Ruger bring one hell of a nice premium price. Non-standard wood might not mean much either in that case. JMHO, but I would contact Ruger and find out for sure whether this is what you have. In all probability it is someone's custom conversion, but the cost of a stamp or even a phone call will prove one way or another. Never hurts to ask. Paul B.

The gun shop that does, or did, all of the employee transfers for the Rugers made at Pine Tree Casting in Newport, New Hampshire, is called Rody's. If you call them and give them a SN, they can probably tell you if it was an employee gun. I have heard, but do not personally know, that since Bill Ruger, Sr., died, Ruger will no longer allow employees to make non-standard configuration guns for themselves. I have a couple of NIB non-standard employee Rugers with the original invoices and I hope that someday that will have enough special value to a Ruger collector such that he will pay me BIG $$ for them.

As to puching a 250 out to 257AI, I just wouldn't bother. I like 250 but don't see much use for the 257 or the 25/o6 I've used them all, it's just a personal preference thing. Lynn
My vote would be 30-30 or 30-40 Krag. What a sweet deer rifle that would be.
I have a .30-40 in that one, it shoots well but the trigger gaurd hurts my middle finger every time I shoot it.I may bend the lever to to suit my liking. I shoot alot of diferent calibers but that one always gets me.......
