Trying to chase down some info regarding the Ruger M77 Mark 1. You know the one,it's got the shotgun(Tang)style safety on it. Any links would be much appreciated as I cant seem to dig much up. 1)I'm trying to find out a few things, one being does the tang safety block the firing pin(Just like the Browning A-Bolt does)? 2)Is it CRF,as it seems to have a claw extractor? Got a feeling it works kinda like the new Sako 85 CRF system, where it engages near the end of it's cycle? 3)How many actions lengths did it come in? 4)Positives & negatives? I know they had adjustable triggers. Cheer boys, Tez . K.I.S.S.

I am not sure if the safetyy blocks the firing pin. They came in short & standard (06) lengths. They are not CRF but have a Muaser claw type extractor. The tang safety is just a nice featuer I wish they would have stayed with. They can be tempermental to bed. Factory bbls. were suspect on several years of manuf. I actually prefer the action to the new ones & have my .338-06 built on one. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Very dissapointed in there gas handeling capability on a RH 6mm 77 Tang safety shooting a factory round LH. Primer back came out and a small piece of brass went into cornea of Right eye. Almost through cornea, $1K in medical bills but saved eye. Sold it and bought left handed rifles. Was dissapointed in Rugers stance. kk alaska

I have one in .257 Roberts. 1. The safety does not block the firing pin. (Incidentally, you have to get the safety installed properly in order for to work, and it is easy to make mistakes when assembling it. The sliding safety button has to be put in properly -- it can be put in upside down -- and the linkage rod has to be installed right. Otherwise it will bind against the stock wood and not work.) 2. It is not CRF, although it has a Mauser-type extractor. (I think the CRF fetish is just that -- a fetish about something that makes almost no difference in practice.) 3. The action was available in both a short and a long form. 4. Someone lese here writes that the action is not good at gas handling with such things as blown primers. I have no experience, one way or the other, with that in this action. Other than that possibility, I think it is a good action, especially if you like tang safeties. 5. At least in mine, the trigger pull was not adjustable. It is possible, however, with careful and delicate machining to make the trigger pull both lighter and much crisper. You can find instructions and a diagram online for how to do this. 6. I understand from hearsay, not personal experience, that Ruger barrels vary from excellent to crap. "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"
