Need help in deciding which stock to buy for my new 338-06. Remington action, Shilen #4 contour barrel, with a Leupold Vari XIII 1.5x5 scope. I have used McMillens in the past with good results but would like to try something different. H-S Precision with its alum bedding block looks appealing. Would appreciate any comments good, bad, or otherwise from users of their stocks. Thanks in advance.

I have two HS stocks with M-700's on them and like them.

One is a .22-250, the other a 6.5-300Wby. Both are the "varmint special" style stocks, since both rifles are varmint guns. I had to open up the barrel channel on both rifles, since the barrels aren't standard contour. The 6.5-300 tube is very heavy and I hit the front sling swivel washer before I had sufficient clearance to fully float it. I just ground out enough of the washer to clear the barrel and stopped there. Admittedly, this isn't normal to do.

I am very pleased with both, having had consistent performance and they are more solid than many synthetic stocks. Both rifles will shoot 3/8" groups at 100 yards from the bench.

I am a compulsive glass-bedder, and had to stop myself from trying to do these as well. The aluminum block is what was needed all along. I made myself wait until the rifle was built and loads developed before I did anything hasty. Never had the urge to change anything, though.

I have a HS Precision stock on my .308win Rem. Model Seven. Long story, but it has a M700 bbl on it and I did need to sand the bbl channel to open it up for the larger contoured M700 bbl.

Although some have stated these stocks are not ready to use until they have been bedded, I did not bed mine and the accuracy is all I expect out of a big game hunting rifle at the distances I use it at. And on windy days I use it for hunting coyotes also, so I guess you could say it is accurate enough to work as a varmint rig (but I do call the dogs in so the shots aren't way out there).

I've had a few of them as well as Mc Millans too. I prefer the lighter Mc Millans. All three of the HS stocks I had ended up having to be either beded or the alum bedding block modified a little. Personally I'd stick to the Mc Millans as they are lighter, you bed them from the start and your done.

You are going to like the .338-06 a lot. GREAT cartridge that will do it all in NA unless your going after the big bears. I've used mine on elk and a few heads of south african game, all one shot kills. WHY Win or Rem hasn't picked up on the .338-06 is beyond me.

I own five H-S Precision made stocks and like every darned one of them. I also own one McMillan and one Bell and Carlson. I can honestly say I am happy with all of them.

I use H-S stocks on everything from a .300 Weatherby Magnum to a 22-250 Remington including two Remington XP-100 pistols chambered for 7mm BR.
I am perfectly happy with all of them. I am also quite pleased with their customer service, having talked to Brad at their plant when it took a while to get a stock I wanted.

Really good company to deal with. Really nice people when I stopped by the plant one time to talk to them.

Ditto all the above. I have 3 varmint modles and the tactical model on a 300RUM built on a 700 action with a 30" pacnor tube finished at 1"!!!! The rifle shoots .250" repeatedly.

All my guns built in or purchased with factory HS Precision stocks,...shoot very well. I would take them over most any factory offering available. Mcmillans are nice too,....but more spendy for the same performance. I have 2 of those as well.

I have used both and prefer the fit of the mcmillans. Many of the precision gunbuilders recommend bedding even with the aluminum bedding blocks.
