I now have 3 savage .308s.
A 99f from around 1959 or 60. Thats a 22 inch light weight lever gun, a 99eg from about the same time frame, that's a 24 inch not at all light lever rifle.
And i just bought a 16/116 lightweight Hunter.
Its a 20 inch featherlight bolt gun.
I am interested to see if the new out shoots the old. Both of the lever guns shoot great ! like bolt rifles. But something about this new little guy has me liking it. ...tj3006

Savage 99s serve a good purpose. I have owned 4 of them 1 250 3 300s. Many deer have died in front of them.

Only have one now I carry it every Wis. gun season.

My kids and hunting partners call it my don't miss rifle. Running jumping standing deer all seem to die well.

I load it on the light side 165gr at just under 2400fps. It is a 1.5 to 2 inch rifle sporting a 1x4 scope on it.

I have killed deer from 5 feet to over two hundred yards with it.

Nothing like a little weigh a longer barrel to make a smooth swinging off hand rifle.

My favorite 99 is a 1950 99F (featherweight), its Savage 99 at its best, came in 250-3000, 243, 308, 358 Win. and 284 Win. light and handy, just a great hunting rifle, but I have a thing for the heavy long barrel 99EG like daddy always had. I want one in a .308..I have one in 250-3000 for my grandson. My 99 take down, about 1919 will shoot under and inch and mostly around 1/2 inch groups, not bad for a takedown rifle or any rifle for that matter.

I also just purchased one of those Savage Lightweight Hunters in .308. Have not been to the range yet to try it out but I am anxious to get there.

Several years ago I bought an 1899H in 303 Savage for my father and he likes it. Really light and handy carbine.

At some point I'd like to get the same model for myself in .250-3000. Seems like a perfect combo.

Those model 16 Lightweights look neat. Never used one of their bolt actions. I bet they shoot great.

I've got a clip gun in 308, shoots moa.
a 243 brass rotor, even with the savage book I can't tell which one it is.

and a 300sav takedown w/tang sight (marbles)

The 14 short action bolt in 250-3000 is a nice rifle. The clip is steel not plastic. If this was a euro gun the clips would be $250 a piece.

243 w/kurharsky mount, theres a hole in the mount so you can feel/see the cocking indicator.
