Hey Ron, LOL… I wondered when you’d participate in the thread – good to have you on board. Not a bunch of difference between your Ripmoors and the full-length PRC cartridges. I just figured it’d be a bit easier to neck the 300 PRC up and down (with neck-thinning if needed) than to use formed or cylinder 375 Ruger brass. Plus I tried to follow PSFB of the 300 PRC and 6.5 PRC with the derivatives: 264 PRC – PSFB: 0.199” (I referenced both the 6.5 Creedmoor and the 6.5 PRC 330 PRC – PSFB: 0.2409” Personally I’d think Hornady would generate a full-length 280 PRC next if the PRCs are being generated for long range hunting and target shooting. If generating a darn fine hunting cartridge with the side benefit of being extremely accurate then either a 280 PRC or 330 PRC would be next in line – or better yet both… Only question that truly arises is, if one already owns a 300 PRC then the 280 or 330 PRC’ need would be minimized. If one already owns a 7mm RemMag or a 338 WinMag and then rechambering to 280 PRC or 330 PRC would be easily accommodated, and it minimizes the need for any other PRC cartridge. I guess it boils down the just how many rifles a guy wants to have… Personally I’ve been looking at the Winchester M70 Extreme Weather SS rifle. A 300 WinMag would require a new barrel but the 264 WinMag, 7mm RemMag, and 338 WinMag could fairly easily accommodate a full-length PRC cartridge with barrel set-back, rechambering, magazine work or swap out, bolt stop and ejector work or swap out. Definitely ought to be something a competent gunsmith could accomplish at a reasonable price if the individual provides the finish reamers and go/no-go gauges. Anyway, welcome aboard… Edit Update: I did some further looking at the 300 WinMag/300 PRC scenario and with a barrel setback of 0.0600” the 300 PRC finish reamer would completely clean up the 300 WinMag chamber... Couldn’t find the factory COAL for the ELD-X 212gr Precision Hunter ammunition...so I purchased a box. Measuring a random sampling from a the box of 20 gave an average 3.6325” COAL. I did not purchase a box of the 225gr ELD-M Match ammunition so cannot verify the factory loaded COAL. Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne | |||
