Hey for all the folks reloading 300Wthby and 300RUM using the 180gr NBT/Accubonds why kind of muzzle velocity are you getting? And what barrell length?
When I was a shooter without a lot experience, I cared. Now I don't.
I think last time I checked I got in the 3300 +/- for the three RUMs I own. I noticed that very fast loads with slow powders had a lot of MV deviation that showed up as vertical stringing at long range.
Honestly, does anyone out there think 50 or 100 fps matters that much??? If so, do you shoot at long range, or is it just an opinion?

I agree that 50-100fps doesn't have any real effect on field performance when you are into .300 RUM velocities.I'm positive the animal taking the hit will never know the difference.I think a chrono is more useful when working up loads so I can see where I stop gaining enough velocity per increment in powder increase to warrant burning the extra powder just so I can be shooting the max load for my rifle.

It has been my observation that RUMs do better with powders that are not the slowest.
I am taking out one tomorrow to test the Horus Vision system. I was turned off by the clutter of the reticle, but the guy has a pretty cool idea. We'll see how it works tomorrow and the ensuing days.
