Just returned from the range. Tried some loads out of the Barnes Manual with Mag-Pro & Barnes 180 gr. MRX Bullets. Fed LR Mag Primers. Looked like a accurate load, except they were hang fires. Confused
Pulled remaining bullets and reloaded with H1000
Anyone out there tried Mag-Pro?

I've run it with my 300mag, 300wby, 340 wby. Never had a hangfire. Always used 215m primers.

Will be trying some Monday in the 340 wby under a 300simk.....so far the gun hasn't liked the bullet with re22 or I 7828.

I just shot Magpro this afternoon with my .270 WSM and .340 Wby. Both shot well enough that I will continue to play with it. I used Fed 210M with the WSM and 215M with the .340. I have shot it for several months and never had a hang fire. Good shooting.

I have tried Magpro in both .270 WSM & .270 Win. In case of the WSM used magnum primers, but in the .270 Fed 210. I have not had any issues with hang fires. Magpro gives top velocity in both the old & new .270s.

What was the charge weight? I ran into hangfires with ball powder in my 270-300RUM when I let the charge weight fall below a certain point. As far as the primers are concerned, I'll break from the norm. I haven't seen much of any difference in using LR vs LRM primers in cases up to 100-110gr capacity. In fact I read an article a while back that stated Mag primers were designed for case capacities in the 130-200gr capacity.

Reguardless, I'd check the the load density. If your only putting 80gr of a very dense slow burning powder in a case that can hold 100-115gr of that powder, hangfires are almost a certainty.

Chg weight was 89 & 90 grains. This was per the Barnes Manual. Used about 83% case capacity as I recall?

My lot of powder has been slower than I thought it would have been. About 3 grains slower in the weatherbies. Have you chrono'd the load?
A check of my records shows I'm running 89 magpro in my 300wby under a 180 accubond with rem brass and only getting 3175 fps.
I'm thinking in a rum that would be a pretty light load. I'm thinking that's the root of the problem. Also for what it's worth I found that by crimping with a lee factory crimp die on some loads I picked up another 50-75fps with magpro.
