I see that cz has a fullstock in their 550 lux series. I have a ruger rsi in 06 and always wanted a little more horsepower. How does the 9,3 look with a 20" tube? I use 200grn with the 06 and was hoping to get a little heavier bullet. The 9,3 looks good. What do you guys think. turfman

I have a FS CZ in 9.3x62. I've never checked the velocity but I'd imagine I get 2200+ fps in it with 300 grain A-Frames as I get almost 2400 fps with the same rifle with a 24" barrel. The gun shoots pretty accurately, too, with no load I've tested averaging over 1.5".

The 9,3x62 works fine in a 20in barrel. I have a Pre-64 Winchester rebarrel to a 20" 9,3x62 and had no problem getting close to 2600 fps with Moly'd Barnes 250 gr X bullets. The combination worked so well it is currently being restocked in a interesting piece of walnut.........DJ

I have a friend who uses a CZ 550 with 20" barrel. He has chronographed the following load at 2299 fps. Using 285.5 gr Lapua Mega bullet over 54.0 gr of IMR-4895 in Lapua brass with WLR primers at 3.280 OAL. I'm not necessarily recommending it, merely providing the info. Check the manuals for suitability. Janus.

Turfman, I shoot an RSI in 308 which I dearly love. I also have a Dumoulin on an FN Mauser action in 338 Win Mag, 20.5" barrel and full stocked. It's a couple of inches longer than my Ruger overall and at least a full pound heavier. The 338 is ok in this gun, not something you want to shoot off the bench all day but it certainly won't hurt you. The 9.3 x 62 shoots similar weights bullets at similar velocities so should be about the same. You might just want to rebarrel the Ruger, but think about adding a little weight to the stock.

HI, I just pick up a Barnes reloading manual,number3,it shows a 286 grain X at 2,512 fps with H414 57.0,this is out of a 24 inch barrel so I would think you could get what you want with a 20,Kev

My 376 Steyr does great with a 20 inch barrel, so I am surre the 9.3 will do so as well.

Figure about 50 fps per inch of barrel for the 9.3x62. I have been keeping track of velocities and barrel lengths for the 9.3x62 and it sure seems to average 50 fps per inch for the folks who chronograph it. I am not sure why this number is so high, but I am not the only one who noticed it. 2600 fps seems very high for a 9.3x62 in with a 20 inch tube. I suspect if this velocity is right, the pressure must be excessively high. Although I see a drop in velocity in shorter barrel lengths, no one so far has complained about it or a drop in accuracy. Seems they all shoot very well, regardless of barrel length. Do a search for 9.3x62 and read the posts that come up. This has been discussed a fair amount so far. I am still looking for a suitable caliber as I have a Mauser 98 that I want to rebarrel with open sights. It has to be at least 35 caliber though. RobertD

I'm getting 2335 fps out of my 22" Blaser barrel with 286-grain Nosler Partitions and 57 grains of IMR4895. Even better, accuracy is 0.5" at 100 yards. The nominal velocity is 2350 fps from a 24" or 60cm barrel, so I'm very happe with an average of only 15 fps less in 2" less barrel, which won't make a whit of difference in the field. You should be able to get 2250-2300 fps out of a 20" barrel, based on my results, and I don't think the animals will notice the difference at those velocities either.

The almost 2600 was with a Moly'd bullet of 250grs not 286 so though warm was not hot in my rifle. I mic'd cases with a blade micrometer and case webs were within tolerance compared to factory rounds. Also factory rounds are loaded to a lower pressure level due to the old rifles that may be encountered. Judicious reloading with the 9.3x62 can achieve promising results.......DJ

I use H4895 in my 9.3, which has been cut to 22". I get about 2,300 fps with 286-gr. Partitions. I think a 20" carbine would work really well. Okie John.
