Wow ! That brownign would be cool ! I,d have to find or have a QD set up built for a 1.5X5 Leupold and a ghost ring rear with tritium front. Dead Elk at 250 yards, but I would rather have a Whelen or a .338-06...tj3006 freedom1st

I've never owned either a 760 or a 7600, so this may be obvious to some. I found a forum in which a poster quoted a Remington reply to the same question. the poster quotes Remington as saying there isn't much the same, except the buttstock and fore-end. The 7600 changed to a free-floated barrel, fewer and larger locking lugs (the 7400 did the same thing), and numerous smaller, hidden production changes. FWIW. Jaywalker

Although I'd rather have one in a .375/06 variant, I would buy one in 9.3x62 caliber. Make mine a carbine with 20" bbl and I'd be very happy. Oh, I'm left-handed and the 760/7600s have never bothered me with their ejection. Can add the Rem 870 to this also. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

Me, too. Those rails forward of the magazine add up to a lot of balance-forward. Jaywalker

I'm trying to get my cousin to cough up the rifle. It is a 760. I'll take the micrometer to it to see if there is enough meat to bore it out. I have no problem throttling back to traditional 9.3 x 62 ballistics. Does anyone know if the 760 barrels were hammer forged or cut rifled? This particulat rifle is pretty accurate as an -06, so I wouldn't want to tempt fate by having it bored out if it was beaten into its present shape. LD

Hey JCN, How about getting another barrel and opening it up to where you want it? Sure goes against the grain to destroy an "accurate" rifle barrel. Best of luck with the conversion(and use a l-o-n-g rope).

Is the rebore going to clean up the 30-06's slightly longer chamber? Call me and I'll come over and help you shoot it! Rich

I have a 35 Whelen Pump 7600 nice rifle very reliable with reloads. Have never had a problem with extraction with 3 760,s in 20 years. Had some issues with a rechambered 35 Wehelen. Rechambered from a 35 Rem. Chamber was large and had to be very carefull with case length. It would stick with some reloads but pump would always extract. Rechabering is very dificult as you cant set barrel back if you go to deep. There was a very intesting article about reboring a 760 to 375-06. The screw holes from sights were too deep to safely rebore. The .366 bore would probably be to large for safety also. No one I know will make a barrel for the 760/7600 series with the barrel extension. So reboring is probably your only option. kk alaska

If the magazine is long enough, I could make it into a 9.3 x 66 Sako. I had better not screw up an accurate 30-06 barrel. I'll look around the beater rack at the gun stores for a 7600. Remington won't sell barrels for any of these guns. They don't want anyone having any switch barrel fun. I don't like the balance of an 1895 lever action, but one of those would make a nice platform for a 9.3 x 62 or 9.3 x 66 Sako. I think I'll just let my cousin keep the 760. It has a better chance of staying in the family that way. LD

Hey JCN, As much as Remington is trying to make money, that does seem like something they would want to do. Do you suppose they have monkeyed with the way the Barrel mates with the Receiver over the years? Maybe just enough to make it a real headache for the older Models. Sure looks like a winner with a 25-06, 30-06 and 35Whe combo package. Or a 243Win, 308Win and 358Win combo package. Make it Parkerized with a Synthetic or Laminated stock and I do believe it would sell. Same-E-same for the self-shuckers.
