Critter-Killer..... congrat''s thats one heck of a fantastic B-day present, the 165 gamekings will be fine on deer .that bullet weight is one of the best for the 30 caliber. flat shooting good punch when it arrives, from my shooting iv''e found them accurate but all boat-tails tend to loose their jackets, thats were bonded bullets beat normal boat-tails, brake in your barrel rite and she''ll pay you back 10 fold, most people don''t know how to clean their barrels propery, then turn around and blame the gun bullets etc, etc, everything but them-self''s...anyway enjoy your new 308 it ONE fantastic caliber regards jjmp...

I consider the 308 to be the ultimate whitetail caliber and 165gr sierras will work very well. I don't consider whitetails difficult to kill and you may even be slightly overgunned but if you ever run into a huge buck you're set. It will also work very well on blackbear. Enjoy your rifle.
