First off let me say I know nothing about Sakos. Is there anything special about a L61R in 300 H&H? How rare are they in 300 H&H? What is the value of such a rifle? Assuming it is in very good condition.

Thanks for the info. I should have been more clear, the gun is about 99%. So from what you are telling me the 300 H&H is nothing all that special, just the 10-15% that all magnums get. I was just curious if they made many in 300 H&H. I wasn't sure what calibers they were chambered in.

Sako's are a little wierd in values. I am am using the Gun Blue Book as a reference and my own recent buying experiences.

Wierd part is there is no ( I repeat no, zip, yent ) plus up for odd calibers in the blue book, mags get a 10-15% plus up.

There is a detraction for actions that are not L61R's which is 25%.

Used guns are all about condition but my book lists it at $795 for a 100% rifle, thats brand new in the box, never fired in perfect condition. ( I am not on the absolute newest book add your 10-15% for a magnum). You said the rifle was in very good condition, in gun values that is about three rungs down the ladder. If you aren't familiar with the grading system I caution you that might not be what you meant.

If you are familiar with the grading system that could be a 80% and the value is around $440.00 to a high of $475.00 for a 90% gun. ( again add 10-15% ). You should adjust upwards a little cause my books not the newest.

Items to look for: BOFORS stamped on the barrel is an undocumented plus. Upgraded factory wood, means its a Deluxe and the above prices apply to standard sporter models. Does it have the original Sako factory rings with it, those original Sako rings are pricey, if they are missing subtract at least $100.00.

After all the above confusing stuff, I just bought one for $500.00 in a 270 Win. I would add 20% for the mag your looking at. I expect it has a price tag retail at the $800 mark at least, and somebody probably has one for sale at $1000.00

I would offer in the $500 range to start. And I should caution you I am cheap and this is going to be regionally adjusted across the US, California you need to add at least 20% to that number for example. Another item is 80% of the old Sako's sold don't seem to be following book prices. The sum of parts on that gun is woth probably $600. The action is worth $300, the barrel at least $100 and up to close to $200 if its a BOFARS barrel in 300 H&H, and the stock will bring $75-100. Recently I ran across a 375 H&H in the same thing it was just under $800. One last caution is it steel or a aluminum bottom metal, this dates the prodcution years and the steel bottom metal is older and more desirable.

I can't help you on the production numbers, I had that bookmarkered on a sight in Sweden I think but the link is dead now, and I haven't been able to access it in months.

You said you knew nothing about them, they are a little heavy, old Sako's weren't a light rifle, the stocks were heavy, and they don't have small barrel contours, so they end up at least a pound heavier than most people prefer. These are very good actions and barrels though, basically Sako's version of the pre 64 Winchester. I have never seen one that wasn't a very accurate rifle, and the actions are simply slick. I like them a lot they are one of my favorite rifles, and that is a pretty short list and I am pickey.

Hope this helps.
