Gentlemen

I am giving a friend advice on factory ammo for his 300 win mag.
He will be using it on Euro game manely in Sweden, Roe buck deer, Moose and wild boar.

I am thinking about recomending CPD ammo from Blaser
They make a 165 grn bullet go real fast (3182 fps) and flat and the bullets are exelent. I know this for a fact from my friend who used then in his 8x68s in Africa (I was there with him).
I am just thinking is the 165 grn CDP bullet too light ? would he be better of with Norma TXP 180 grn (Swift-A frame)scirocco ??
http://www.blaser.de/deutsch/produkte/accessories/munition-data.htm

Give me your thoughts on the matter ?

Cheers,

Andr

Jeff; I think 180gr is optimum for the 300s. Moreover, the fact that your friend will be hunting moose and red stag, I would opt for that A Frame. It's a hell of a bullet. Provided of course the rifle shoots it accurately enough for hunting purposes. jorge

Jorge

My friend is getting a new Ruger m77 stainless steel and laminate wood.
He will be mounting a Zeiss 2,5-10x50 VM on it.
A gunsmith friend of mine will polish the bolt and set the trigger etc. etc.
He should be good to go

Cheers,

Andr

He'll be happy with that rifle. I gave my father-inlaw one in 338 that's a real tackdriver. No matter what you feed it, it shoots EXACTLY 1" groups all day long. That's a HUGE scope though, but I guess you guys over there in the old country like those big objectives jorge

Yes Euro style Big scopes
However I like the smaller scopes like the leupold 1,5-5x20 or a zeiss varipoint 1,5-6x42.

I used to shoot with swift A-frames in my .338 LM, but they did not rip enough. Exit was minimum.
I am not asking for silver tip explosions but a litle trauma is always nice.

Cheers,

Andr

I too was shooting African plaines game Eland and BWB etc.
I maneged to recover a bullet from my blue WB (275grn Swift A-Frame)and there where no sharp edges. The bullet looked fine and had expanded perfectly. But I would like some small rouged edges if I can.
My friend with the 8x68s and the CDP recovered a bullet that looked like a barnes X. The CDP is designed to loose the front lead and X.
The A-Frame is however a great penetrater if that is what one is looking for.

Cheers,

Andr

I never got any good groupings with Norma's factory (training) ammo.
It was when i started to make my own ammo the presicion came. But i must say that CDP is a bullet that have good reviews in the magazines.

Try to find factory accubond ammo and you'l get good grouping on longer range too. At least i did
