My step grandfather "willed" me his No.4, Mk.1 Lee-Enfield .303 British. As a child I had a HUGE attachment to it, asking to "play" with it often (unloaded of course), and it was the only thing that I was given of his which I feel lucky to have considering I am a step-grandchild and my attachment for it. Cool

Unfortunately it's bore is SHOT, and I would truly like to re-barrel it with a new, old-surplus barrel to restore it to its prime. Smiler

Can anyone PLEASE point me in a direction where I could possibly find a new barrel???????? Or possibly a gunsmith specializing in the Lee-Enfields???????? bewildered Frowner

THANKS for ANY info you can provide!!!

Might try one of the following:

Gunparts Corporation
SARCO
SpringField Sporters (don't know if they are still in business}
Gibbs Rifle Company
IMA
Or search the net for a military firearms forum. Should probably have a forum for Lee Enfields. Might also try Guns America under parts.
I have one and it is one of my favorite military plinking rifles. Good luck on your search.

Well, I've tried Gunparts and have heard of Gibbs but didn't think to ask them since they sell complete guns. Outside of that, you have given me a good list of starting places!!! thumb

Dave, I have been on the .303 site, but found no body there could steer me in the right direction. Frowner

woodsracer,
Didn't look to see if you did but, if you didn't try reposting this question on the "gunsmith" area. I would think that somebody there could help.

Try http://www.marstar.ca. If they don't have it, they know where to find it.

If you have a serious attachment to it, buy another No4 Mk1 and swap out the barrels. Keep the rest for parts.

FWIW, I would keep the heirloom as a wallhanger and get another one as a shooter

Zeke, keeping it as a Wallhanger is a good idea I guess. The rifle has been sporterized and minus the black tip, and checkering, it reminds me of the one in "The Ghost in the Darkness." Guess I need another as a "shooter" to play with and your link has the nicest shooters I've seen (even HANDPICKED!). thumb Makes me want a Mauser M24/47 as well. Wink
