I think this is the start of the end of the 325 wsm because only browning is left if its so.They say on the ruger forum that very few 325s in Ruger 77s were made.I bet only the 270 wsm and the 300 wsm will survive.I have heard nothing good about Kimbers wsms everyone I have seen jamed .I hope that the gun makers learned a lesson about jumping around on calibers and getting rid of the older better calibers.Reminton probally will quit the 338 and 375 ultra mag pretty quick also. The 300 ultra mag might survive maybe.I like my good old 338 win mag ,the 416 rem mag and the weatherby 338-378.
What's the point of this post? That we should only buy .270 and .30/06 caliber rifles? Practicality has very little to do with this sport in any shape or form.
They will last as long as they last. Everyone said the .358, the .284 and the .350 Mag were dead in 1980, yet here we are ...

It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.
I do not think Remington will drop the 375 RUM at least. Anybody that wants power in a .375" caliber rifle is going to love the big RUM. I am hoping to see a 458 next year.
"Older and Better". Hmmm, an interesting point of view. There are Classics e.g., 375H&H, 416 Rigby, 470 NE etc BUT the 338 Winnie ain't one of them. The 416 Remmie is based on cheap brass so it's good for the masses. The 338-378 is excellent for long range. OK, but there were tantalizing wildcats based upon the 404 Jeffery, teasing us with fantastic numbers with no belts! Now thanks to Remington, we common folk have the ability to have a reasonable facsimile, at an attractive price. The AR rounds are based on this concept. They may not have the popularity but the off shoots will keep them alive. Case in point the 284 Win.
I have 5 416 rem mags and love them.I have 8,000 pcs of brass and about 5,000 bullets.I love shooting them.I have two 338-378s I hunt with them more than any other guns .I still use my 338 win mag that I consider the best over all gun for all North American game.I have 11 of them now.I have a few others but hardly ever huint with them.I sold allof my little guns except a pre64 270 feather weight that I am selling because I will never use it. I do have two 264s that I use one of them to deer and pronghorn with .I like them.
The 325 wsm was stilborn, and it has nothing to do with it being a wsm.
It's a simple fact if you want to jump up from something like the 300 WSM, you will both go straight to the 338 win mag, and want a slightly heavier rifle. The 325 wsm offers nothing over the 300 WSM or the 338 win mag.

I have been thining out my collection for a while getting rid of stuff I dont need or like.I then buy the stuff I always wanted.I finally had a custom 416 rem mag.I had a stainless one made that was the last gun I really needed .I have sold a few 416s that I didnt like.I had a Sako that the stock just didnt fit me.I sold my other Winchester classic 416 because I already had one and it was nib and I could not put myself to fire it.I have this matched pair thing too.I have 14 matched pairs of guns rifles shotguns and pistols. The other one is for my girlfriend if she ever becomes my wife.I got ride of the one that hated hunting and kicked the dog.I just found one that wants to learn to hunt and fish and has a 4wheeler already and a big boat.

Do you have any range time with the 375RUM yet? If so, how does it compare to the 375 H&H?

I have a better deal than owning one, a friend that does not reload owns one and thinks he is conning me by letting me do all of the loadwork; while he only has to buy components..HA! Realistically, it is worth about 150 to perhaps 200fps over the classic H&H chambering. They take the same length action, the Holland is much easier to convert to. I am going to build one if I can find a suitable action. Got an Obnedorf Mauser laying here with the bolt handle and safety alterations done, that I may have to do. I have a commercial mauser in 375H&H Improved (came to me that way), and I keep thinking it is just a reamer shot and some feed work away; but the improved is sooooo close, it makes the conversion less appealing than on a standard 375. I am going to wait until the Ruger 375 makes its appearance in the spring. That would not entail any action work.
The biggest problem with the RUM series is the snail's pace that Remington introduced the calibers. They are much better thought out than the WSMs.(No flames please). I have a 300WSM and like it OK but I'm not in love with it and it doesn't do anything I can't do with a 300 Win or Weatherby(whic I already had). Somebody described both families as "answers to questions that had not been asked". I like a flat shooter but I don't worship at the alter of velocity. Maybe the 338 Federal is for me.
Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing.

I think the 338 wsm missed the boat.I dont really care for the wsms which besides the 270wsm and 300 wsm are disapearing like the do-do bird.I think the 338 wsm would have stayed like the 300 and 270 wsm.I have hunted with the 338 win mag 20 something years and still love it for deer and most all of North American hunting.I like my 264 a little better for pronghorn hunting but the 338 win mag loaded with blaistic tips in 180 or 200 gr might work but antlelope are kinds little and bullets might not open up.I have shot deer a long ways away with my 338 win mag and it worked fine. The lonest shot I ever made was on about a 90 pound deer 425 years away hesd on.The 338 win mag hits harder on deer the further out you shoot them..This is because the bullets if meeting more resistance the slower it goes.I shoot 200 gr winchester power points on deer which work awesome. That would be the perfict bullet in the 338 federal. The hornady 200 spirepoint is close to it.I like the big 338-378 on wide open spaces .I have shot it only 450 yards so far at big game but I would shoot moose and elk further at with he right conditions. It flattened two caribou with one shot at 450 yards with the 250 gr nosler partition.I find myself still using my old Ruger model 77 338 on deer but the rest of the time I mostly use my 338-378.I do still use my 416 rem mag in the thickets and timber woods when its an area with alot of grizzleys. In a tent at 5 feet away no gun is big enough for them.It is also my tent gun of course.I really narrowed my calibers down.I sold my 458 except one ,sold my 35 whelen,7x57 ,25-35s ,30-06 ,308 ,250 savage and 243s except one that I use to breaknew shooters in on.I mainly use three guns My old Ruger model 77 in 338 win mag,My 338-378 Weatherby accumark and a Remington Stainless 416 rem mag model 700 remington.I have a bunch more of each gun though just in case i need a back up or something breaks.
I ment to say except for the 270 wsm and 300 wsm the rest of them are disapearing. With Ruger and Winchester out of the wsm market the browning and remington have most of the markets.I have seen alot of Kimker wsms with jamming problems.I looked at a stainless 300 wsm Ruger 77 but besides a collectors value down the road I really dont need it.A stainless Ruger 77 338 wsm that weighed 7.5 pounds with a scope would have been nice to carry but probally not to shoot. The 270 wsm and 300 wsm are here to stay but I think its the end of any new wsms.I think the 375 Ruger case if the brass is not bad will be a good caliber to neck up to 416 or 458.The 416 rem mag brass is thin but it works fine.I have shot some more than 10 times with reduced loads no problem.
The 270 wsm and 300 wsm are here to stay but I think its the end of any new wsms
dgr416 The 300wsm and the 270wsm are doing more than staying. My friend that sell guns for a living tell me that they are smoking the old round in new sales. Besides remington added the 300wsm and 270wsm to it's lineup so who gives a shit what Ruger does?
