Hey Seafire, If you happen to go back in that Wal-Mart, you could write down the Serial # and contact Mossberg about it. They may tell you if they have tooled up to make it themselves or if it is made for them by someone else. Did you happen to notice if it had "Made in USA" stamped on it? I know a guy who has one of the B&W 30-06 Mossberg rifles made by HOWA. I believe he got his in the early 1980s. It cycles pretty slick and is heavy enough to help reduce the felt recoil(it is a heavy rifle). Shoots right well too.

Mossberg actually imported rifles under their name a long time ago in the 1950s or early 1960s as I have been told. Back when Euro currency was low in value compared to the American dollar. It was either Sauer or Sako that they imported if I am not mistaken. I am sure someone will be more than happy to correct me if I am wrong, lol. This is definitely not any retooling of a real high class rifle as the above. My bet is it is a well made, eastern european made rifle, from like Romania or Bulgaria or something to that effect. However for the cost it looks simple but well made to me. Cheers seafire

Personally, I'm old enough never to take Mossberg seriously. Simply the result of a bad experience 40 years ago trying go the "cheap" route with a Mossberg bolt-action 12-ga.

Seafire, I have wondered that myself. I don't know who actually makes the rifle but, it might be a real shooter for the Price. I bought one of the Handi Rifles (SB2 25-06, Lam. w/ 26" bbl) for less than 200 dollars just for a knock-around gun but, man, it aint too bad. It shoots nice groups at 200 and the trigger is right at 3#. Not too bad for a cheap rifle. That Mossberg might be a shooter too. Can't never tell until someone trys it. Sounds like it would be a good truck rifle. One you could keep behind the seat and wouldn't have to baby it all of the time (for those unexpected "spur-of-the-moment" hunts). Good Luck!
