Anybody have the C.I.P. (or SAAMI, if applicable) maximum allowable pressure data for the 9.3.62?

In a late model CZ or modern rifle, it can be loaded to the same pressure as a .30-06, etc.

why wouldn't it be loadable to the same pressures as the .270 if one has a good bolt rifle?

I see no reason that it couldn't. Someone a while back said even the new brass was thinner in the web. I cut one apart and it looked as think as my 280 brass.

My guess is the large difference seen for listed factory 9.3X62 and 9.2X66 reflects higher pressure as much if not more than the capacity.

According to the RWS manual "Wiederladen" max. pressure for 9.3x62 is 3400 bar(49300 psi) which is a bit lower than for 30.06 (3500 bar) and much lower than for .270 (3700 bar.) but don't ask me why there is such a difference.

Pressure is impacted by the strength of weakest rifles chambered in each round. Just like the 270 if 65,000 but the 280 is 60,000 because Remington chambered their pumps in the 280.

That same pump gun was also chambered for the .270, the 244 Rem, and others of higher pressure.

I has to do with what rifles the cartridge has been chambered. Same holds true for the 222 Rem. Its pressures by SAAMI are well below that of a 223 Rem.

Hmmmmmm Thought that was what I was told was the reason. How about the 742 auto? Hey I've been in left field before. Always made sense to me why the pressure was 5000 less. Without that as a reason then I guess Rem just didn't want to compete with the 270.

Follow up:: Looking around I was confused. It was references to light loads because of the auto such as this one made by Boddington ""Part of the problem with the .280, I think, is its checkered history. Originally designed for the Model 742 Remington semiauto, its original loads were mild. In 1979 Remington had the brainstorm of reenergizing it with faster loads and renaming it the 7mm Express. This confused everyone so much that after a short time it became the good old .280 Remington again. There are plenty of factory loads today, but it's another cartridge that can benefit from handloading.""

The question was what is the SAAMI or CIP standard, not what it can be loaded to. Always answer the question! Kudude

Your shoulder! Recoil of 286gr loads really takes off as pressure mounts.

Also remember this venerable cartridge was designed for use in Africa where lower pressure meant increased reliability in extraction which given it's use on dangerous game is not to be sneezed at. I find it possible to get 2,300fps with 286gr partitions under single base powder - above this I wouldn't want to go.
