I need help guys. I am going bear hunting in september. I am using my 336 with a 170 grain speer hot core bullet. I can run 10-12 rounds no issue. Then the next two or three will missfire. The dimple left in the primer is small in comparison to the rest of the rounds. Any ideas or suggestions?

Have you disassembled the bolt? It could be a little debris preventing the firing pin from coming forward the full distance.

What did you find? I had a M94 in .375W a long while ago that I got cheap because it missfired. I found a small piece of sand in the bolt that had csaused a rough spot. I of course cleaned it up but also stoned the rough area a little. It never misfired for me after but I didn't use it a lot and sold it.

It is probably a bent lever. I run into this problem 2-3 times every year. Belive it or not, the lever on a 336 is not that hard to bend. Most get bent when the loading gate gets loose, binding the action. Too much force trying to free it will bend the lever. ( But some just seem to bend on their own.) The lever raises the locking block, which raises the rear firing pin, which then has a straight shot at the front firing pin. When the bolt is open, look at the bottom rear. That little round rod is the rear firing pin. If it is not in line with the bolt when the hammer hits it, some of the hammer force is dissipated on the bolt. If it is not bent too much, a knowledgeable gunsmith can use a padded vise to hold it and bend it back. If it is bent very much, a fixture is needed to get it back in proper shape. Whatever you do, don't let anyone start grinding on parts in an attempt to fix it. The lever will still have to be bent, and the other parts will need replacing.
