Does anyone ever use solids in there Medium bore rifles for second or third shot down ,in case they have to take a going away shot on some thing big like elk,moose,bear,Hog? I have heard of this before especially bear hunters,but wondered how many folks have acually done it? Seems like they would work on lesser game if the big bores work on the really big stuff? All this talk about bullet failure would be history?Seems like i read to use them on smaller plains game in africa with the big bores. Would they work on deer as well? Would a solid in a small bore like a 243 or 257 drive deeper and make a better game stopper/taker at all angles?What would be the toughest critter to tackle as far as penetration is concerned in north america besides the bison?Moose?Mad cow? Are the barnes X bullets and the winchester fail safes a solid really?Without kidding ourselfs?Fancy solids in disguise! Will there be better bullets in the future,or has bullet technology pretty much reached its zenith? All we will have is rehashes of what we have now with different names and packages kinda like the wsm craze? Maybe aluminum exploding bullets or something strange?Besides the failsafe,ballistic tip and the Acura-bond what has really been new in a long time? Whats the perfect bullet today?Big Solid?Why wouldnt a solid killjust as well as a soft?If the soft does not penetrate/explodes, it is useless as tits on a boar hog !How many have shot just a regular size deer, only to have them run off,never found,even with a good solid hit ?Useing a soft bullet that didnt penetrate enough! Hunters alot of times just do like cattle and do what ever the magazines tell us to do with there fancy ads and pretty pictures of elk running across a meadow or somegoofy green and red colorbox?If you dont shoot or hunt with brand zxybullets you aint diddly squat! Oh yea,i do like the grandslams,nitrex ammo is one of my favorites as is core-loks & powerpoints! I just want to shoot something big with a solid long ways!!!!!

I have used solids in my big bores for about all of the African game and they work fine with a properly placed shot and you can eat to the bullet hole...

Mostly its illegal in the USA, and in most places it is too populated to use them as they do whine off into the sunset...

A good tough soft is a better bullet for what you want, it won't open up much anyway.

Well for deer then,whats a really light caliber that does really well besides the 30-30.Thats slow but effective and safe?35rem.44mag.,444.45-70,12ga.slug?Say for hunting in mixed woodlots around farms and homes such as in various parts of the country were a rick a che is not wanted at all.Tree stands really shine in this area and one doesnt have tobe 8feet off the ground to see better anyway...........close shots equals safety,powerline shots equal someone might get hurt if terrain isnt proper,never shoot over a hill!!!!

IMO all solids penetrate deeper regardless of the caliber because solids do not expand compared to lead core copper jacket bullets.

I get a kick out of the guys who badmouth a solid then use a hard cast bullet in their 45-70, 45-90 or whatever!

I got some 300gr.fail safes today to try in my 375H&H,When I get time.
I never have tried Them before....
I have been shooting theRem.safari swift A-frame300gr. & Grandslams 285gr.Nitrex ammo.My 375 is a good one,it throws any thing so far, from 270gr.up in the same place.
Iam happy with the 270 & 300grain bullets!
