I have used solids in my big bores for about all of the African game and they work fine with a properly placed shot and you can eat to the bullet hole... Mostly its illegal in the USA, and in most places it is too populated to use them as they do whine off into the sunset... A good tough soft is a better bullet for what you want, it won't open up much anyway. Are these the best.Woodleigh,Failsafe, nosler, swift,Grandslam, northfolks, barnes, who didi leave out-walterhogs.Anything else is just wishful thinking, for best allround hunting bullet and is just second rate?Life is to short to hunt with a uglynogood scallywag cheap chinesebullet!I hate to gamble on my bullet being ,maybe good enough, maybe not!Yea i forgot about those rick a ches, solids would do that, not good!well then for big deer/caribou anycaliber larger than 300winmag. is far to powerful and would be a hazard as far as bullet traveling forever past the target?I wonder how much traveling a bullet really does after traveling thru a shoulder shot?seems like the 30-30 is rather safe as a not-keep on going round and would be a lot more in step with what it takes to harvest deer size game and still not fling lead for miles thru the hunter filled woods on opening day across the nation!I always try to hunt from a tree stand just so that doesnt happen and i pay attention where my bullet is going beyond the shot!I dont set up in no spot where my bullet would go flying wiley nilly over hill and dell!Thats just chicken shit in my book and anyone who shoots without reguard for other people/humans is a criminal! and needs to be tar and feathered!!!!!!!!! Anyone ever hear of some jerk shooting a high power rifle up in the air at a crow or a bird?I bet someone does it every year somewhere!I heard of a guy that was shot off his horse and never heard the shot it was so far away!!!!! Well for deer then, whats a really light caliber that does really well besides the 30-30.Thats slow but effective and safe?35rem.44mag.,444.45-70,12ga.slug?Say for hunting in mixed woodlots around farms and homes such as in various parts of the country were a rick a che is not wanted at all.Tree stands really shine in this area and one doesnt have tobe 8feet off the ground to see better anyway...........close shots equals safety, powerline shots equal someone might get hurt if terrain isnt proper, never shoot over a hill!!!! longshots in the east not as safe as shooting in the desert out west!!!!Ok i see where the ballistic tips really shine now, ![]() ![]()

IMO all solids penetrate deeper regardless of the caliber because solids do not expand compared to lead core copper jacket bullets.

I get a kick out of the guys who badmouth a solid then use a hard cast bullet in their 45-70, 45-90 or whatever! ![]() Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
